Love Sale ~ Etsy

This year marks 30 years ago that I fell in love with my husband.   I don’t know where the time went, but I still feel like that 19 year old sometimes!  So to celebrate love and Valentine’s Day, I’m offering 30% off in my Etsy shop.

Wine Holder Makeover

I had bought this wine holder a couple of years ago and used it in our old house to hold any overflow bottles that wouldn’t fit on the wine holder we had at the time.

Since we moved we now have this wine holder from Pottery Barn {found at the outlet}.  This picture is from the Fall, but you can see it clearly.

I was going to get rid of this little holder, but then I saw how Nelly Vintage Home had made one over by painting it white.

I had a small amount of Pure White chalk paint left over and decided to use it up before it dried out.

I’m hoping I can figure out some way to use it in my own home,  otherwise it’s going in my Etsy.

If you’ve got any ideas I’d love to hear them.

Cabinet Risers

2013 01 18_0260

When I was moving things around in my whites cabinet, I realized that some of the pieces are the same size and can’t be easily seen.

2013 01 18_0255

I thought it would be a great solution if I could find something to raise a few of them up.  I found I had these wood discs {that were originally for another project} and a few glass candle sticks from the dollar store.

I painted the wood pieces in Pure White chalk paint and attached them to the glass candlesticks.

I put them in my whites cabinet and raised a few of those pieces up.  Here is a before.

After, with the riser.  I was able to use the space better and move the matching creamer near its sugar bowl.  Plus, I made a little more room for any new pieces I find to add in {because apparently I have a thing for little white creamers}.

Here’s a second one I added to the shelf above.

I still have the third one to put to use.  It adds some height to the items in the cabinet, while being unobtrusive, and now I can see all the pieces that I think are so pretty!

A Little Thrifting

Last week I went to Goodwill, mainly to get some sweaters to convert into boot socks/leg warmers and arm warmers.   I did get some lovely sweaters, and my sister sent me some lace that she had picked up, so I will get started on those soon.  I also found this large teapot.

Since I will be removing a tureen from my whites cabinet to go up on top of the cabinets, I wanted something of similar size to fill its spot.  This worked out really well to do that.

SONY DSC

I think this piece fit perfectly.  Of course, I didn’t find any tureens, but I’ll be looking for them throughout the year.  I also found this nice silver tray.  I love the size and shape.

I’m hoping to find one or two more that I can hang on a small sliver of wall in our kitchen.  Kind of like this look, but without the rack.

I love these trays below, but don’t want anything quite as big for the area I have in mind.  I know I have seen both these pictures before, but there was no source on Pinterest for these when I found them.  If it is you, or you know who it is, please let me know.

The last thing I found was this frame.  I thought it might look nice painted in a Vintage White, so I’ll be doing that quick project soon.

I Could Live Here

One of my favorite television shows, since it first started, is Once Upon A Time.   Just love it! One of my favorite things about this show is the fashions and the sets.  During one recent episode, I decided that I could live quite happily in Snow’s/Mary Margaret’s loft apartment.  It all just suits her present day character so well.

I love the exposed brick.

You can just imagine that she picked up her furnishings at yard sales, flea markets or thrift stores.

I think the kitchen is one of my favorite rooms in this loft.

The bedroom looks pretty cozy, too.

Do you have a favorite show with a set that you could see yourself living in?

Redecorating The Cabinet Tops

My goal this year is to get a few more white tureens to add to the top of the kitchen cabinets on one side of our kitchen.  So far, I have three.

SONY DSC

I’m hoping to find what I need at Goodwill {where I found these three} or at one of the local antique marts.  I went looking on Pinterest for some inspiration but, sadly, couldn’t find anything showing the look.  The only blogger I can remember who did this is Kathy at Kate’s Place.  This is a photo of her kitchen below {not mine}.

I was sure I had seen tureens on other blogger’s kitchen cabinet tops, so if you can think of someone who has this, I’d love if you could let me know.   You can get the idea, though, from Kathy’s picture and from what I’ve got going so far.

SONY DSC

I think three more for a total of six here will look good without feeling overcrowded.  Plus, I’ll consider myself lucky if I can find three more!

Buffet Tabletop

I showed you the toile runner I made for the piece I use in our dining area as a buffet in my previous post.  I got a transferware piece I ordered {Etsy} and was able to put together a vignette that is different than what I had before.

2013 01 17_0247

I brought in my cake stand, that normally sits on top of my refrigerator, and put some of my everyday white sandwich plates within it.

2013 01 17_0233

This little cloche piece holds a transferware teacup that I had in another area.   You wouldn’t believe that I ironed this runner once already!

2013 01 17_0242

I used the wire cloche I had with the transferware topiary, which led the way on this vignette.

2013 01 17_0236

And the little creamer that I just recently got holding some antique silverware.

2013 01 17_0241

I love the transferware with the toile!

2013 01 17_0231

I also noticed while putting this together that all the metals are the same color, which worked out really well.

2013 01 17_0237

It probably won’t stay this way for long because I don’t want to be dealing with dust on the dishes, so I’m sure I’ll come up with something else in the next couple of weeks.
