I HATED them! They were super inconvnient to use unless of course you are tall enough to reach into the very back of the top unit to retrieve your clothes. The washer weighed a million pounds because it was what weighted the unit down so it didn't bounce across the floor during spin cycle or so the dryer didn't topple off. Did I say that I HATED them. Besides they take up just as much space it's just vertical space instead of horizontal leaving no space for cabinetry above the unit or a place for hang up clothes. I say DON'T DO IT, Don't waste your money. Anyway that just one girls opinion. Good luck on your move and i'm sure you will be delighted with whichever option you choose. I wear reading glasses, and I had trouble reaching the controls when the machine was on top, and knowing what they said without a step stool.
I'm hoping that when this machine wears out, there will be better options for me!

Two friends have had trouble with mold/mildew growing in their machines. I often find myself kneeling on the floor. That's okay for this point in my life, but I wonder down the line how annoying that's going to get. However on the plus side you can fold on top of the front loaders.DIYbyDesignhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13539686141594500815noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4293397190628506592.post-33222043065832851092011-08-16T09:07:29.841-04:002011-08-16T09:07:29.841-04:00I had a stacked unit in a condo we had a few years...I had a stacked unit in a condo we had a few years back. It was in a closet, not a laundry room, so there was no place to fold clothes.

I have a side by side now with front loading. The only thing I would do different is NOT get the bases they sit on. It is convenient not to have to bend over to get the laundry out, but they are so high, again there is no place for a counter to fold.Penny from Enjoying The Simple Thingshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01480355122441712250noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4293397190628506592.post-67991479095583664582011-08-16T09:01:43.018-04:002011-08-16T09:01:43.018-04:00LOL!!! Why, yes, Kathy, . . . I am stacked ;o) M...LOL!!! Why, yes, Kathy, . . . I am stacked ;o) My washer and dryer, that is. I don't have a laundry room, but a "laundry closet". When we purchased our new front loaders, we opted to stack to give more room for a base cab/countertop in the laundry area. We removed the bifold closet doors and opened up that recessed area to create more of a laundry "room" in a back hall area by the kitchen that leads to the door that goes out to the garage. As of now, I really like the room created by stacking, but I'm thinking as years go by and me and my back get older, I may not like bending over so far to deal with clothes in and out of the washer. I figure I'll worry about it when that day comes - hopefully not for a bunch more years. Incidentally, I have pics on my blog of my laundry area if you're interested in taking a peek. Click on the "laundry" tag on my sidebar.CosmoGirl Carlahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00756698123430026996noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4293397190628506592.post-81774167841230582522011-08-16T08:58:34.576-04:002011-08-16T08:58:34.576-04:00I had a stacked washer and dryer years ago when I ...I had a stacked washer and dryer years ago when I bought my first condo and my niece had one too. No problems at all.

What I do have a problem with is the front loaders. I dislike mine (wanted to use hate, but that is just an ugly word) immensely. It doesn't save on water as I have to hit the extra water button every time and oftentimes wash my clothes twice as they come out dirtier than when they went in.

I clean the drum every time I'm done with it so it doesn't smell and empty out the water that doesn't drain out completely once a month but I think it's soap residue that accumulates (and I use HE).

Unless you use the speed wash, it takes over an HOUR to wash one load!

Do you want me to tell you about the dryer, LOL It supposedly knows when the clothes are dry and shuts off, yeah, right.

We bought an LG. I had my Maytags for close to 25 years until the dryer quit. They definitely don't make them like the used to.

Okay, that was my 2 cents worth LOLMarsha @ Tattered Chickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02649306456279297614noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4293397190628506592.post-86124332391210234692011-08-16T07:22:12.349-04:002011-08-16T07:22:12.349-04:00Don't know about the stacked washer and dryers...Don't know about the stacked washer and dryers, but red socks and white briefs are ok now as long as you have color catchers, they work pretty good!Ann Marie @ 16 Muddy Feethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18043510561974011878noreply@blogger.com
