Item Of The Week ~ Wastebaskets

The new issue of House Beautiful was the inspiration for this week's Item Of The Week - wastebaskets. Yes, trash containers! Not like this:

But like this:

These are just a few of the 50 they highlight that caught my eye. Some of these are just too pretty to put trash in!

I'm sure you could re-purpose these trash cans to really enjoy them in other ways, too - to hold some extra fabric, rolled up and kept neatly in place; a faux (silk) plant container; a holder for those little umbrellas (the pop-up ones); craft supplies; kindling wood for starting your fireplace or wood stove; and, of course, you could use them as a trash can.

So many colors, styles and patterns! Something for every room!

You can visit the House Beautiful magazine site to find out the resource information for all of the wastebaskets they show.

  3. It is the little touches like these that make a room special, yes? Love the aqua one.

  4. Who knew garbage could look so good?! :-)

When we were in Belgium a couple of years ago, my hubby found the coolest trash can in a store we were in. For him to get excited about something in a home decor store was quite the moment!! So of course, I encouraged him to buy it!! It's gray and has hologram-looking letters all over it. If we ever finish my home office, I'll post pics of the room and you'll see the cool trash can in it :-)

Thanks for mentioning our giveaway in your sidebar :-)

  5. I agree Marie!

Thanks for the welcome Aubrey! I would only use something like this for "dry" trash myself, unless I tucked a plastic bag inside it for protection.

Absolutely Kathy - those little touches can add that last something needed in a room.

Kelly ~ When they show an interest - go with it! I'd love to see your office when it's done.

  6. Those gorgeous cans would NEVER survive in my house lol. Especially not with my preschooler!

I love the first one though. It promises to possibly be the only survivor lol

Just dropping by to welcome you to the SITStahood.

Jackie, who knew you could make a statement with a trash pail!

  8. Kathy, these are sooooo pretty! Makes me feel crafty! I have extra powder room wallpaper. Maybe I'll cover a cheap plastic paleto match the room. Hmmmm, what trim to finish it off with? Maybe gimp?

    Thanks for posting!

  10. At first I was thinking, oh yeah, trash containers. Then I saw that last one! It reminds me of the one I use for a small Christmas tree each year, and I love that one!
    Have a great holiday weekend,
