This is the sofa that I have in my living room. {Don't look at the picture over the sofa ~ it is too small but I needed something there and I grabbed it out of my dining room}.
It is so comfy and well made; I love this sofa.
I am not loving the color and pattern so much anymore. I am planning on having a white {washable} slipcover made for it.
So, I've been saving some inspiration pictures.
Country Living
Ellen Kennon
Pottery Barn
It also seems that every magazine I've been looking at recently has a lot of white slipcovered chairs and sofas ~ either that or I'm just noticing them more. Do you have a white slipcover? Do you love it or are you sorry you got it?
Be sure to check back on Sunday when we will be offering a giveaway! This giveaway will be running all next week so you'll have plenty of time to enter!
Kathy, I've also been wanting to slipcover my living room couch. Do you have someone on LI that you can recommend?
ReplyDeleteI wrote an ode to white slipcovers last year. I just adore them. Never tire of them and with a dog and kids love that I can just throw them in the wash.
ReplyDeleteHi Dawn ~ I will most likely work with Elisa from The Drapery Lady. Here is her website:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thedraperylady.net/home ~ it's just a matter of when.
I first met her on Twitter and then we met in person. She is in Bayshore.
I love white slipcovers and would love to slipcover my leather coaches. With 2 kids and a dog it will have to wait. The brown leather hides a multitude of sins that I'm afraid I white slipcover would not...at all. Your coach will look fantastic in her new slip. Can't wait for you to show her off.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your take on them, Laura! My kids aren't little anymore but I like the idea of them being washable. You know, how stuff happens!
ReplyDeleteYou're not alone, Beth! I know many people with kids who feel more comfortable using leather because it's easier to clean and/or hide those "sins". I may get that done over the winter so it will be ready for Spring next year.
Oh I really do love the fresh white slipcovers too Cathy!
ReplyDeleteI just bought "Romantic Home" magazine yesterday for the first time. There is a home in it you would just adore. It's gorgeous in all shades of white.
~Blessings, ~Melissa :)
I love the look of white slip covers too. I am starting to think about them for my sunroom which has the worlds most comfortable sofa and loveseat in it but the fabric is starting to look worn. I'm not even sure how to find someone to make one for me! Let us know how it goes for you!
ReplyDeleteYummy! Have a great weekend. TTFN ~Marydon
ReplyDeleteFirst our kids wore out the fabric on our sectional. Grandma made white denim slip covers. My kids did unspeakable things to those too so Granny made another set using the first set as a pattern. The kids have now flow the coop, the sectional is gone. And now white slipcover are cool? They were always cool at our house.
ReplyDeleteI love the elegance of white slipcovers. I can't wait to see pics once your couch is done!
ReplyDeleteI just started getting that again, Melissa! I had thought they folded and then found out they didn't. I love Romantic Homes. I'm always relooking through my magazines anyway, so I'll have to pull that out this weekend again.
ReplyDeleteThat's how this sofa is, Lisa. This is a "nap sofa"! I really need to do something with it and I really like how the white seems to work in many different ways.
Thank you, Marydon! You too!
ReplyDeleteWhat can I say, Terry ~ you're a trendsetter! : ) I'm sure they've always been there, it's just that I'm at a different point in my life and the white slipcovers fit in with that.
I think I'm going to see how I can finagle that into being my Christmas gift this year, Tiaa! I'll have to start practicing my argument.
ReplyDeleteWhite slipcovers are all the rage it seems suddenly! I have green ones myself but I would like something entirely new *sigh*
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy, Thanks for visiting me and entering my giveaway! I love the first slipcover that you found in Country Living! love it. I have an antique white sofa(no slipcover) that a local furniture store assured me would not stain, ha.I have 3 boys 10, 8, and 5 and in the last 3 years we have stained it from one end to the other. They conveniently forgot to tell me that it is Dry Clean only....the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Anyway, I would love to have some slipcovers, may have to check out your source.
ReplyDeletethanks again,
angela
OOOH Kathy, I love all the inspiration pictures...so many beautiful white slipped covered sofas...so hard to choose...but my favorite is the Ellen Kennon!!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by The Southern Cottage! I will add you to my blog roll!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend! Nancy
I am with you! White is the quintessential upholstery option. If the home will allow it, white is fresh, pure, easy and pops! Great post
ReplyDeleteHave granddaughter.
ReplyDeleteDon't do white fabric.
But love the white, tailored sofa.
Sweet dreams.
I think they've been around {as Terry above mentioned}, it's just that I'm taking more notice of them. I'll bet a lot of people have had them for awhile now. Sometimes it takes me awhile to come around, Maria!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, you must have been mad when you found out it was dry clean only, Angela. I had a light blue denim slipcover on a couch once, and it was great because it was washable.
Thanks, Amanda! I've been keeping not only pics I find online, but in magazines too. I'm finding many different style rooms that it's working with. I think if I go with a straight hem and pleats at each end {like the one from Pottery Barn and a couple of the Coastal Living pics}, I should be good.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Deb! Yes, my key word will be "washable".
Hi, I love your inspiration pics, I think your sofa will look great with a white slipcover! Have a sweet Sunday! x
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteLove the chair from Country Living! Your sofa is going to look awesome sleep covered...can't wait to see it! :-) Susan
P.S. Loved your idea of a french door or glassed door for the dish pantry. :-)
Hi Torie Jayne! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi Susan ~ Thanks for coming over! : ) I think it might be a good project for over the winter.
Do it girl...you will LOVE them! I had white slipcovers made for a sofa, club chair and ottoman, this was about seven years ago and they are still in great condition. Do make sure that they are washable. Come over for a visit if you have the time, thanks.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda
Oh yes, Linda ~ Washable will be the first words out of my mouth! Glad to hear you are happy with yours.
ReplyDeleteI love white slipcovers too! I recently made a slipcover for my sofa (blogged about it here http://bibbidi-bobbidi-beautiful.blogspot.com/2009/08/tale-of-two-sofas.html). I still love the slipcover, but I bought beige linen on a whim and am wishing I had used white instead. Maybe I could bleach it? I love the idea of being able to wash a slipcover, but in reality it does take some effort to take it off, wash it, perhaps press it and put it back on. Do you sew?
ReplyDeleteThank you Kathy!
ReplyDeleteI am SO wanting white slipcovered furniture in my living room. I live in a REAL cottage in Fairhope, AL, and I think it would look fantastic in here....Problem is that I currently have a BIG DARK HUGE VERY MANLY VERY HUGE leather sofa and an equally huge club chair.... I don't really want to get rid of the leather, and I sure can't slipcover it....it's great for my big boys and baby girls...it can go in the den, but I don't have the funds for new furniture. I DO have an antique Duncan Phyfe sofa that I can recover....Hmmmmm....I think I just had an idea!
ReplyDeleteYour coffee table is the same style of the one I just painted! It would look so good with your new white slip cover!
ReplyDeleteIn the 80's you used to be able to get really good painters canvas cheap, cheap, cheap. There was a big trend - in this area anyway - for white slipcovers made with these cloths. My next door neighbor still has hers and they still look great. Amazing the quality of those old canvas drop cloths.... completely different than now... close to a 7.5oz denim!! You pulled a great collection of inspiration pics!
