Dollar Tree Finds

This past weekend I went to the Dollar Tree to see if I could help the stock price go up a little higher {no, I'm kidding; I own Family Dollar stock anyway}. Actually, I went to see if I could find some small pumpkins to change out my lemon apothecary jar that is in my kitchen. I found the pumpkins in a net bag, but they were too orange and there were just too many for me to spray paint.

So this is what I got instead:

Christmas stuff! I don't think I've bought Christmas decorations this early ~ ever {except for January, but then I'm stocking up on wrap and cards on clearance so that doesn't count}. The thought of paying $1.00 for each one of these things was just too much to pass up. I plan on going back for more of the ornaments because I think I'd like to try making a wreath out of ball ornaments this year. Like these:

BH&G

Wreaths by Design

Good Housekeeping

It looks like I may need different sizes to accomplish this look.

I liked these stars {even in their present silver}, but thought they could easily be painted.

I also liked these glasses. I couldn't go wrong for $1.00 a glass.

Finally, I got little wood word signs. I actually bought two {the second one says something different, but since I'm making something for my daughter for Christmas, and who knows if she secretly reads my blog ~ my lips are sealed on that word sign}. I've been kicking around how I want to paint this, and I do have an idea. Hopefully, that will turn out as I'm picturing it in my head.

10 things for $10.00!

I'm hooking this post up with
Frugalicious Friday over at Finding Fabulous.

Don't forget Friday is the last day for the
Design Pattern Company Giveaway! I'll be announcing the winner on Saturday!

  1. The dollar tree is amazing! I decorated a table with dollar tree finds, and I love going there. I actually had a bag of stuff I took back to Michaels because they had the same stuff at Dollar tree for... you get the idea.

  7. What cute stuff. I have some small ornaments that I don't use anymore; so I may have to steal your idea for a wreath
    as well.

  8. Shannon ~ I always think that I should stop there when I am on my way to Michael's {I have to pass it going and coming home} in case they have something before I buy it at Michael's. I looked at the dishes while I was there, but they didn't have anything that caught my eye.

Puanani503 ~ I usually go in for the frivolous stuff. I should get the pans next time I'm there, because I do use them and they cost so much at the supermarket.

  9. I have to make it a planned trip, Cindy. I always think I should go but it takes me forever to get there. Now I actually have things in mind to get, I have to make sure I go!

I loved those colors in the ornaments, Jane! That was what brought me over to that section in the first place!

  10. Gail ~ I didn't notice if they had larger ornaments in a container {they had loose ones}, so I'm going to have to check that out for the wreath project.

I could see how that might happen, Leslie! I know that I will be back there many times before Christmas actually arrives.

That would be a great repurposing project, Sandy!

  12. I love the glittery stars! I haven't been to Dollar Tree in a while. Last time I was there they didn't have Christmas stuff out yet. It's a great store for cute decorative items.

  15. We don't have a dollar tree here but we the same idea. I have avoided buying things in Bix Box stores because they sell the same thing for a buck!!

I will definitely check for ornaments next time to see if I can get ornaments for a cool wreath.

PS.. Thanks fo your support and kind words, as always.

  16. 10 for $10 -- that is a great deal. Especially with the prospect of creating something entirely different with them. We have stores here where everything is .30 cents -- haven't been there in a while, so I am thinking it is time for a visit to see what goodies I can find. Best wishes for your weekend, :) Tammy

  19. Hi Nancy! Thank you! Can you believe I just saw the exact sign painted black online at Target or some place for $14.99.

I kind of troll the aisles, Manuela. Sometimes I see stuff, sometimes I don't. I was actually surprised to see some stuff ~ like the wood signs and they had vinyl transfers, too.

  20. Michael's has had their Christmas stuff out for the past 3 weeks now, Chelsea, so I guess with the popularity of the dollar stores, they are in on that now, too.

I always say "I have to go", Beth, and I should probably check there more often for decorative type items before I hit Michael's.

Hi Vitania! Lovely to see you! I don't go there that often, but at least now I know they have those ornaments and I'll make sure I go back for some more of those.

  21. Hi Tammy! A $.30 store, you must feel like you have gotten a real bargain when you leave there! I like that I got a variety of things for the $10.00, too.

I couldn't believe it when I saw it, Misty! I don't know why, but I really didn't think the dollar store would have something like that. I guess it pays to look!

Thanks, Tiffani! I may be rethinking the wreath, though. One of my followers, whose business is decorating for Christmas, told me that it takes a lot of ornaments, gluing, and time to get them right. So maybe I'll be adding ornaments to a pre-bought wreath instead. Bummer!
