This past weekend I was back at Michael's {yet again} and purchased craft paint that worked with the paper she chose {to use on the inside part of the P and the outer edge}.
Here are the supplies for this project:
1 - Letter of your choice. I got a P for our last name.
2 - Sponge brushes. I just bought a pack of 4 at Michael's.
1 - Craft paint that coordinates with your scrap book paper. Mine is a metallic called Moss Pearl.
1 - Scrap book paper sheet of your choice. This was a nice green with gold in it. {Picture above shows mine already cut out}.
1 - Jar of Mod Podge.
I traced the P on the back side of the scrap book paper with a pencil, lining it up so that the gold scroll part would be on the long line of the P. I cut that all out and made sure it fit on the top of the P. Next, I painted the inside portion and edges of the P and let that dry. I went over it a second time just to make sure there was no streaking or white showing through.
Once that dried, I applied my mod podge to the back of the scrap book paper P and on the face of the P itself. I very carefully put the paper P on top of the wooden P and made sure it was aligned. I then let this dry and then applied some mod podge on top. Here's the finished product.
It does have a little keyhole hanging hole on the back, but my daughter has those ledge shelves to put it on and it can just lean. I think I prefer that look better.
The craft paint turned out to be a perfect match to the scrap book paper, too. Don't you love when that happens?
I'm linking this post up with DIY Day at ASPTL.

Very cute. Our last names starts with "P" so I can really see this in our house!

That turned out great! Love your choice of paper!

ReplyDeleteWow, your project turned out beautifully! What a great idea to use decorative scrapbook paper. Thanks for the tutorial. =)
Hugs,
Liz
Great initial project. I love decorating with our monogram too. Haven't tried the decoupage idea, though, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThat's very cute. I am sitting staring at my kids initials right now trying to decide what to do with them. They used to be hanging somewhere else, but I didn't like them...now I am thinking of attaching them to a big 2 X 4 or something and spelling out their "initials" (which just happen to spell out DaMaGE)

Woouuw! Very beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteYou really inspired me with that P!! Thank you!
Greet
Thanks, Chelsea! This was the largest size Michael's carried, but I'm really looking for one a bit bigger for myself.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Angie! I had no idea this is what I was going to use it on when I bought it; I just really liked the paper. : )
Thanks, Liz! It was a nice option to painting it. I have one I'm making as a Christmas gift, but attaching the initial to an oval wood plaque. I'm trying to decide which to paint and which to decoupage. . .
Hi Kimm! Thanks! I'm loving the monogram thing myself! I don't want to overdo it, but I find so many different ways to present it that I love.
ReplyDeleteHow cute, Sheri! If you do something with them, I hope you'll post on it.
Thank you, Greet!
I love it!
ReplyDeleteGreat Monogram project - the framed one is beautiful, too!
You're such a nice mom! It looks great and I'm sure she'll love it. (Good move too. That frame is too cute to part with!)
ReplyDeleteFun - I love crafting with my oldest daughter.
ReplyDeleteLove your P! Great job!
ReplyDeleteVery nice, you are good at this kind of stuff. I used to do crafts, but now I never take the time. All my free time is spent blogging...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mandy! The framed one I ordered and I think I will leave that type to her!
ReplyDeleteShe did love it, Beth! She's into decorating her apartment with these little accessories now.
It would have been interesting if she actually did it with me, Laurel! I think it was better that I just made it for her! : )
Thank you, Marsha! I was kind of sorry to hand it over!
ReplyDeleteI used to craft all the time, too, Vicky ~ years ago while a SAHM. I've rediscovered all this since blogging actually, after seeing so many of the nice things out there that are easy enough for me to do. I need that quick gratification so most of these are perfect for me.
You did a great job on the P.
ReplyDeleteI know your daughter is happy!
Rhonda
Love the letter you covered and I love the frame you purchased. I may have to try to make one of those! Thanks for stopping by. Blessings...Sherry
ReplyDeleteGreat idea I think you can see by the chalkboard I made that I love to decorate with initials. I have been thinking of doing something with my daughters first initials S and G. Something like this would look cute in their bedroom! Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the lovely comment!
ReplyDeleteLeslie
Thanks, Rhonda! She was thrilled with it!
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry! Thank you; and I love my "P" frame, too! : )
Leslie ~ I bought my daughter an "N" once, for her first name, years ago. She had it up on her shelves, but was not as into it at the time.
Thats to cute. Simply endless possibilties with mod podge! I made one of these covered in "fall" scrapbook paper, added a ribbon, and hung it on our front door! $3 total! Can't beat that!
ReplyDeleteI wish this one had been bigger, I'd like to have done one to hang on the door. I guess I could incorporate into a wreath or something though ~ good idea!
ReplyDeleteThat is wonderful! I can see why your daughter wanted Kristens frame that she made for you. It is GORGEOUS! She is so talented isn't she?
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy~
ReplyDeleteGreat projects!
They love wonderful.
Donna
