Christmas Gifts That Won't Break The Bank

What do you get when you take

3 cylindrical glass vases
2 short glass vases
5 glass candlesticks
2 small glass prayer candles
Some ornaments, ribbon and peppermint sticks

. . . all from the Dollar Tree?

You get Christmas gifts that won't break the bank {and a hubby that says "what the heck are you making now?"}.

I read a blog post by Melissa at 320 Sycamore {she has such fabulous ideas; you have to check out her blog if you haven't yet}. I've already copied/adapted a couple of her projects. Melissa's inspiration came from the Williams Sonoma hurricane.

Melissa at 320 Sycamore

While I could not find the large vase she used at my Dollar Tree, I got the largest I could find. Unfortunately, the large glass prayer candle stuck out of the top, so I had to skip it.

Here are mine:

I used Gorilla glue {a favorite, I'm finding, among many bloggers}. Like Melissa, for the short vase I glued the candle inside the vase first. Then glued that to the candleholder. Vase, candleholder and candle ~ total $3.00.

The larger vases really became two gifts in one. After gluing the vase to the candleholder, I filled one with ornaments and one with peppermint sticks. The recipient can use the ornaments on their tree and the holder for one of their own candles or filler. Vase, candleholder, and one sleeve of ornaments ~ $3.00.

You can add ribbon or other embellishment, and if you get that at the dollar store, too, it's still under $5.00! Here's one with what was labeled a "mini wreath".

You could even monogram these with stickers! I think the possibilities are endless to what you could add to these.

Yes, these are gifts ~ I'm only keeping one for myself! Four gifts put together in about an hour at under $5.00 each ~ can't beat that!

  17. Oh, how funny! I saw this craft a few days ago on Dollar Store Crafts (I think) and I made mine tonight. I hadn't thought about the Peppermint Stick idea, although that's perfect! I also used Frosted Glass Spray Paint, which I found at Lowe's for about $4 the other day and had been itching to use. I love how they turned out. I'll have the pictures on my Web site pretty soon.
