My grandmother used to tell me that. I’d usually say something that would crack her up and she’d tell me “You’re a corker”! In this case, I really am. I saw this picture recently while looking for something for a client.
How fitting, especially since I just got a whole bunch of corks from one of my sassy bloggy friends! Look at that jar on the sideboard that they crammed full of corks. I had an apothecary jar that the lid broke and it was just sitting on the side waiting for something. I stuffed it full of corks and am using it in my much smaller wine area {compared to the PB display} in the dining room.
And guess what? I still had plenty of corks left over! So I decided to try the middle piece of artwork over the mirror. I like that it is not cork overkill and I have supplies on hand that will work for this.
I originally thought {from the larger picture} that fabric was on the background, but it just looks like cardstock or paper. So I pulled out a piece of ivory cardstock that I had picked up at Joann’s {when they had a 2-fer sale going on} and used that as my background.
I got these high-end black plastic frames {5x7} from the dollar store, which is the only thing I had to purchase. I wanted something with depth, but not a shadowbox. I removed the glass since I wouldn’t need it.
I picked out some corks that I liked and hot glued them to my background.
I had some blank tags and used some number rub-ons I had. I used regular craft glue to adhere them to the background.
Here’s the finished project.
I think it makes for a cute little display in an area where you store or serve wine!

Funny thing is, I looked for these at PB online and I don’t think they’re for sale!

Hi Kathy,
ReplyDeletePB has such wonderful inspiration in their catalogs. I love your cork display. The two framed cork art pieces really finish off the beautiful vignette. I have a small wine area in my finished basement and I'm going to give this a try....thanks!
Jane
Great ideas! I have WAY too many corks, and I'm not even a big wine drinker. Just have a hard time throwing them away. Will definitely try one of these ideas.
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing somewhere, years ago, a "kit" you could buy to make serving trays and trivets using corks. Don't remember if the corks were included, or if the idea was to use your own collection. Anyway, the framed corks you showed from PB are very similar to that kit.
Oh, and I just remembered! There was a movie, can't remember, I was watching and the backsplash in the kitchen was all bottle corks. Maybe a bit much, but interesting just the same.
Thanks for sharing!
How cool is that!!! Better than PB!! I like the two frames too that are filled with corks!
ReplyDeleteBottoms up!
xxoo
Don't you just love it when you get inspiration somewhere and then yours turns out better that the one that inspired you. Yours look great. There is just something about a cork isn't there.

Very nice ! I've been keeping my eye out for cork projects.
ReplyDeleteAdorable. I have tons of corks after going wine tasting - and no I didn't drink all of the bottles, lol - just asked if they had corks and winery was happy to give them to me. So, if you ever go wine tasting....
ReplyDeleteAnd nice shout out to Flo! LOL!
ReplyDeleteThose came out great! I really like the framed ones with the numbers.

So cute framed! I have some in an apothecary jar too but I love them in the frames with the number tags. I love the cork wreaths I've seen too. :)

Kathy,
ReplyDeleteApprox. 1 hour before reading your post, I was pouring my corks into a glass hurricane, too funny!
I am so with you on the wannabe PB!
Love what you did with the corks. I have seen those bulletin boards and think they are fab, but I don't want to use up all my corks on one project, so your idea is great! Linda
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post, Kathy -- WOW, this has given me a lot of inspiration for upcoming projects.
ReplyDeleteOh I love what you did with those corks...
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for the birthday message dear Kathy! Means a lot...
Cheers: Evi
I love it!
ReplyDeleteI got a chuckle about you being a corker when you were young!
We used that term too...sweet membries!!!
Rhonda
ha! i JUST filled a big glass bowl with the corks i'm saving to make a bulletin board :D
ReplyDeletePottery Barn has been using wine corks for years and it never gets old! I saw a fish bowl full of corks almost 10 yrs ago and loved it. I filled up a small vase and then bought a huDge one to dump them into. It looks so empty now but eventually it will be full :)
ReplyDeleteGreat project Kathy! I think I am going to have to open a few bottles of wine now!! Thanks so much for linking this post up to Be Inspired last week.

I can pour over Pottery Barn's catalogs for hours! I love to look through them and my wish list can get quite long. I did recently purchase their awesome set of vintage keys and found a cool jar to display them in at Pier 1. Great job on your corks!
