I use my kitchen table a lot when I take pictures to share with you all here, not because it’s painted, but because I get some good light that I can actually work with {or around, depending on how you look at it} in my kitchen. I have gotten some comments that have asked to see more of this table, so I thought I would share it with you today.
I got this table through a catalog. I believe it was Winterthur and it was at least 10-12 years ago. One of the things I liked about this table besides the painting, was the shelf space underneath and the drawer.
I keep our placemats in the drawer, but the space above stays clear.
The painting is all around the table. Four sit comfortably and I have fit 6.
They did have chairs that went with the table, but four chairs cost more than the table! I couldn’t do it, and decided to find something that would work somewhere else. {I also found out a few years later that there is a baker’s rack or small hutch type piece that matches the table}.
I did find four chairs at a local All Wood type furniture store that had a brown and white plaid tweedy fabric seat. The fabric was awful, but I only cared that the seat could be unscrewed and removed. I already knew that I would be changing that fabric out. The color of the chairs went well with the table and everyone thinks they came together as a set.
This was just a remnant piece of fabric I found at a fabric store I love to visit whenever I can plan it. I bought just enough to cover these chairs and I picked this design and color because of the window treatments I have in my kitchen {which I’ll show you shortly}. While at this fabric store I also pick through their remnant trims. They bag them up and mark how much yardage is in the bag. It is an excellent way for me to get small amounts of otherwise expensive trim that I can use on pillows or little fabric projects, like these chairs.
Each chair has a different trim! I love a touch of whimsy in a room and this is my touch of whimsy in my kitchen. I love these chairs! Two have onion fringe and two have tassel fringe.
These four chairs didn’t cost me more than $200.00 {maybe $50.00 a chair, if that} and we brought them home the night I found them at the store. The catalog wanted over $500.00 for the four chairs that actually went with the table! Crazy!
And here is why I went with this fabric for the chairs. My Calico Corners soft valance and roman shades, which have the exact colors in them! There are three patterns residing happily together within a few inches of each other here. I’ve had these treatments up for about 10 years. This fabric has the same design on the drapes used in the apartment on the show Friends {that Monica & Rachel lived in}, only they had a different color.
Roman shade lowered. Although I usually keep them just as you see them above. I only put one or two down in the afternoons when the sun is very strong.
There you go! That’s probably more than you ever wanted to know about this corner of my kitchen! I love it; I spend a lot of time in it; we have a lot of family talks in it; and it’s a happy room to be in.
Thanks for visiting this little area of my kitchen!
Kathy,
ReplyDeleteThat table is gorgeous. I love all the painting on it. Beautiful! I can't believe the chairs didn't come with it. You did a great job with those. I love the trim on the chairs, makes them special.

What you did with your chairs to tie in to your table and calico fabric pieces is awesome!!! I've been looking for some chairs to do the same with for a dining room table!!! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteLove your table and chairs, especially the trim on the chairs. What a great idea to put a different trim on each chair - makes it even more charming and whimsical! Also a great money saver as well. We have one chair we recovered where the trim was more than the material!
ReplyDeleteCan I be in your family so I can have talks with you here?
ReplyDeleteKathy...I love it! You ae my kind of girl! I adore painted furniture and pretty interiors! Pretty meaning feminine touches and whimsy! I get very tired of clean lines and solid colors! Your space simply speaks to me! Such a beautiful spot for your work or spending time as a family! I LOVE IT! Can you tell;)?
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
Cathy

It's a great kitchen. Love the painted furniture. I like the fact that you bought the chairs separately. Looks very cosy! Thanks for sharing your home!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, love that creamy distressed finish! It looks like the kind of table you can bang and ding...over and over again, but it always looks great. Those are my favorite pieces.

Hi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteI love everything about your kitchen. I almost bought a table just like yours a few years ago. Darn, I wish I had. It's so pretty and I love the little drawer. You also matched the chairs up great and I love the different fringes. The fabric is perfect.
Your window treatments look great with the varying fabric. Great job, no wonder you're a designer!!
hugs
Sissie
Hi Kathy, I love your table and chairs! So pretty...Kathy
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you shared the kitchen table and chairs with us! I love the table! And, the different trims on the chairs is great.
ReplyDeleteBTW, the bottom of the nightstand is atrocious!!
The artist did a really bad peach sponge technique and that was definitely not her strong point!
Rhonda
I absolutely adore your kitchen table and chairs. I'd never know those chairs were from a different set - they coordinate perfectly. Fabulous fabric and trim choices too. I adore the fact that you have storage in that table base... and love that you don't have to trip over claw feet at the bottom of the table base like I do with my round table (which I happily gave to my son to furnish his first apartment).

Your table is beautiful and so is the whole room! Love it!
ReplyDeleteKathy, LOVE the table! The chairs are perfect and I LOVE the different trims on all of them!
ReplyDeleteAnd that fabric on the window?? I have ALWAYS loved that fabric!
So pretty...

Hi Kathy, What wonderful ideas for chair trim! I need to read your blog every day to try and did myself out of the decorating disaster my poor home has become. In answer to your question about a shop, I don't know if your are aware that that I give most everything away that I make. I try and make two of everything if possible for this purpose. At the bottom of posts I will simply ask if anyone would like the second. Be on the lookout! Elizabeth
ReplyDeleteOh your kitchen is so pretty! Love the table but those chairs...they are awesome! You couldn't put a price tag on those in my opinion!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful table and window treatment, Kathy!
ReplyDeleteHey Kathy~
ReplyDeleteA table with a drawer on the bottom! What a great idea. I can see why you spend lots of time in this room.
Great tip about the all wood stores. I too have used them for years. So much better than that mdf stuff!
Donna
I'll bet your chair solution is ten times better than the chairs that actually came with the table....they are darling and everything is just sooo darn cute.
ReplyDeleteGreat job.
Warm blessings,
Spencer
Your table "ensemble" goes together perfectly! Very inviting. Thanks for sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteWow! Love it! You have such a great talent...
ReplyDeleteWow I can't believe you have had it 10-12 years! It looks great! And the chairs look awesome with it, and I think it is better that you didnt buy the matching ones.
ReplyDeleteI love all the colors of your kitchen corner. Chairs can be outrageously expensive, so we have to get creative. You did a great job. I'm sure they are better than the chairs that were suppose to go with the table.
ReplyDeleteJanet
I saw a table once that was yellow and made just like that with the drawer underneath and have always been sorry I didn't buy it. Now, I'm more sorry!
ReplyDeleteI love your corner and like that the chairs are not too matchy.
What a gorgeous table. You could never tell the chairs did not come with the table. You did a fantastic job on making it all come together.
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteThe painting on the table is timeless and beautiful. I love the round shape. No wonder you've kept it so long. And how cool is that drawer!
Thanks for coming by my tutorial. You do your pleats the same way? It' so easy that way, but they're so time comsuming! UGH! But when you're finished, isn't it worth it?(smiles)
Kelly
I fell in love when you used the word Whimsy. I love whimsy in a home and kitchen! We take life way too seriously I think sometimes! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the chairs. The whole set reminds me of MacKenzie Childs.
ReplyDeleteLove the table and chairs, so pretty.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your cupcakes this weekend!!
xo,
Rosemary
