I Can Work With This

Monday brought the last day of the few vacation days I took from the day job and I was determined to hit Goodwill.  I decided to look for bottles straight away, since I really enjoyed the two I did up a couple of posts ago.  Nothing in the bottle area that caught my eye, but I did find this lidded jar.

I can definitely see this with another label and maybe some of the trim I picked up at the fabric place.  Nice little storage jar for game pieces or little doodads.

I found this brown metal rectangular tin and saw on the bottom it was that edibles place.  You know, instead of flowers, it’s edibles or whatever.  Apparently, it must have held, well, edibles!  This is getting a coat of spray paint and will work well in my craft area for hold something.  I could also see some vinyl wording on the sides.   We’ll see where that takes us.

Then I found something that I had on my mind a few months ago.  A holder for greeting cards!  I will definitely be changing out the top floral; I kind of like the stripes and it has a saying across the open side of the lid about “warm feelings, yada, yada”.  I’m also thinking a little decorative thing ~ maybe a little tassel or button or something where that dot is on the green {see it?}.  That’s the front part of the lid where it lifts up.

I used to be so good {when my kids were younger} in keeping greeting cards in the house.  I used to order a bunch from Current to have on hand for whatever kid had a birthday party to go to.  I stopped doing that at some point and I think it would be a good idea to start it up again.  All this will need is some dividers, which I can easily make up from file folders or papered cardboard.

Not a lot this trip, but I refused to get a cart and only bought what I could carry.   That made for an $8.00 Goodwill day!  Below is a little bit of additional information if you wanted some ideas as to how else you could use these items.

Frugalicious Friday at Finding Fabulous

So a couple of ideas for what else you could use stuff like this for, because you say, “That’s great for you, Kathy, but some of us don’t craft”.   The glass jar could hold little dog treats, candy {obviously}, cotton balls or Q-tips, make-up sponges, tea bags, equal or sweetener packets, binder clips, rubberbands, pacifiers, hair clips, and many more.

The metal tray could hold spa things by your tub ~ a back or pedi brush, small towel, washcloth, your bath wash/bubbles/soak; it could hold cooking utensils by your stove; candles; remotes; pads and pens near the phone; little plug in thingys for your phone/ipod/camera; mail, etc.

The box could be used to hold your child’s school work ~ current or old but saving; coloring books and crayons for the kids; recipes; DVD or CD storage; small or travel game storage; a first aid kit; an emergency kit for the car; a baby emergency kit {with diaper, wipes, blanket and pacifier}; just to name a few.

  1. Hi Kathy....I'm definetly needing some time off from my day job and would have the same kind of thing in mind....do some thrifting and shopping. LOL...that is so sad on some level, isn't it. Great finds. I have a little jar like the one you found. Can't wait to see how you use yours. Love the greeting card box idea and looks like a good use for the cute box you found. Enjoy!

  10. Nice little score at the GW, Kathy. I especially like the "edibles" container. I had to chuckle . . . like you, I used to order cards all the time from Current. I haven't in ages now. Heck, I'm a cardmaker and either don't have a card already made or don't have time to make one, so I'm stopping on my way to the function or being late in mailing one out. Guess that makes me lazy! LOL

Have fun being creative with your new finds!

  11. I love the lidded jar. You can never have too many. I did some of mine with rub on labels from Hambley Prints. Gives them a nice little touch!
