I was thinking that my son might have been feeling a little left out in recent weeks, what with my daughter having her first child and our first grandchild. Although, they are grown {he was 20 in June}, I like to spend time with both my kids. We picked a day to spend some time together before college started up for him again and Thursday {most of it anyway} was it.
We decided to go to the outlet mall since we both needed some things and made the Pottery Barn Outlet our first stop. {May I digress for just a moment to ask when did outlets stop carrying deals? I noticed earlier this year on our trip to PA that outlets we went in had the same price as the regular store! So where’s the bargain here?}
This pillar candleholder {$17.99} was one of the first things I picked up. With it’s wide base, I am looking for it to be cloche-like rather than used as a candleholder. Now I just need to find the cloche part.
I totally got this 16 x 26 pillow cover {$19.99} after seeing that my sister at One Cheap B*tch got one a couple of weeks ago. Love it! I did not, however, get the pillow insert. I am sure I can get a fairly decent priced one at Joann’s with a coupon or sale.
I just draped it over my black-and-white-chandelier-drapery-panel-transformed-into-a-lumbar-pillow in my living room to see how it would look.
Lastly, a set of numbered napkin rings with the best price of the day at $9.99 for the set of 6. I played with my camera settings in Macro, too, so be patient with my pictures below.
In Neutral setting.
I walked around the store with this pillow in my arms the whole time.
For $39.99 down from $59.99, I was seriously considering getting it. {Meanwhile, it’s $49.00 online ~ go figure}! It wasn’t just a pillow cover like the one I did buy. In the end though, I couldn’t justify the $40.00 and it just ticked me off that an “outlet” pillow was $40.00.
At any rate, we had a good day together and I got just about everything on my list!
Reminder that my giveaway ends tonight! You still have time to enter!
Oh the napkin rings are killing me! I paid full price for them last Fall! And I still love them. Lucky girl!
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a handsome guy your son is and so nice that you had a day together just you two and SHOPPING too!!
Great buys! Love them all, especially the napkin rings! I discovered that Walmart has much better prices on pillow inserts even with a 50% off coupon at Joanns!
xxoo
I don't think they had the Nest pillow when I went. Funny how the Paris one was $19.99 and the Nest one was $39.99 - essentially the same pillow covers with different lettering!
ReplyDeleteDid you go to Williams Sonoma Home on the other side of the outlet?
PB catalog has some cute inexpensive items with free shipping...just ordered some hand towels. $19 and free ship!
xo, Jeanine
You can make that nest pillow girl ! Your son is a cutie pie, by the way.
ReplyDeleteLove your choices and what a great day to spend with your son...hope he found what he was looking for as well. The pillow cover and the napkin rings are both my faves. I think Outlet today just means 'come on in and let me entice you but I'm still going to charge you.....LOTS'. Sound about right??
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteYour son is such a handsome young man. I have 5 sons, and love being around them.
I know what you mean about outlet malls. No deals there. You were able to find some sweet deals though.

i concur about the outlets and pricing, and name brand has never been my thing. it's one thing if you can only get it there. did you go to the ones in limerick? my coworker's purse was stolen there while she ate lunch unfortunately.
ReplyDeletelove that pillow cover, tho!
So glad you got to spend the day with your son. And what great finds. I think the outlets just want you to think you are getting a great deal. If you really check things out you usually aren't.

Even though my kids are younger, I love spending time with each on of them on our own! I am inspired you and your son had a fun day shopping!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, you brought up a point that I've begun to be skeptical about...prices at outlets. They are not really that great often, and for some brands I believe it means you are getting a lesser quality item that might not be carried in their regular store. For instance, JCrew, when the outlet first opened I was all over the stuff, but then it didn't wear that well? Huh?! Oh, was it ever in the main store to begin with? So now I suspect some chains include some separate production items for their outlets. Is it different for home decor? Am I showing my ignorance on a topic everyone else knows how it works? Just curious...obviously!
Have a great weekend! Janell
Hi Kathy, I love the napkin rings. Glad you had a great day with your handsome son....Kathy
ReplyDeleteLove your pillow cover and napkins rings {those I would have snapped up!}. Did you notice Pottery Barn is really getting into the French style pillow thing. I swear they lurk on blogs and see all the pretty pillows being made. I think they will have ruffles next.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had a fun day with your son. I try to do things with my girls on separate days just to make them feel special. It usually involves money! ;-D

I love spending days like that with Seth! And I totally agree! Outlet prices are NOT "deals"! It is just a way to lure us in and we pay what we would pay in the mall! Makes me so mad!
ReplyDeleteLove your stuff!! And glad you spent the day with your son!
Lou Cinda :)
What great buys! I have always wanted to go to a PB or PBK outlet... maybe one day..
ReplyDeleteYou did good, love the pillow cover, and you can always find an insert somewhere cheaper! Glad you had a nice day with the boy, it is hard when there is a new little person around, it was nice that you had a chance to spend time together.
ReplyDeleteI have often wondered why the outlet stores call themselves a sale place when the prices are all the same.......hmmm.
Have a great weekend!
Hugs,
Margaret B
I so agree Kathy! Outlet prices are not really any better unless they are having sales. I use to love PB outlet but the last few times we have been everything has been pretty darn expensive. Thanx for stopping by earlier! Been brain storming on the swap!:)
ReplyDeleteHiya, Kathy!!
ReplyDeleteI was at the Pottery Barn Outlet store here in Gaffney on Monday. Ugh, the prices stunk. You're right!
I did dig through the linens in the Clearance section and found two pillow cases and a flat sheet with red embroidered striping on them. Each was monogrammed, but for .97 for each pillowcase and 1.97 for the sheet, I didn't care if they weren't my initials, I will turn the initials on the cases over to the backside and cut up the huge sheet for extra pillows and a slip cover for the chair in that room:)
My (almost-Bday in October) 20 year-old girl goes back to college on Sunday (Sophomore now), and you reminded me I need to go spend some time just with her before she does.
Hugs to you!

Wow congrats on your first grandchild dear Kathy! Such a blessing! The pillow is beautiful.../but to be honest I'm much more excited about this wonderful news :-)/
ReplyDeleteBlessing and have a great weekend: Evi
Kathy, You are so right about the outlet prices! It is rare that you find a great bargain. I have the same napkin rings and love them and your pillow cover is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Sherry
Hi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got to spend some time with your son. Love your PB finds. Love the pillow cover.
hugs
Sissie
I love your PB goodies Kathy! I wanted to tell you that Hobby Lobby has several different sized cloches and about every other week they are fifty percent off!! Maybe one would fit your wonderful candle holder. I've always though outlet malls were a joke, they don't ever seem to have great prices to me :) I just love that you carried that Nest pillow around the store with you Kathy! That so sounds like something I would have done ~ I love the pillow slip you bought better too! I think Hobby Lobby also has that size pillow insert too....have a great week! hugs and love, Dawn
ReplyDeleteLove this blog! Great ideas...beautiful work!
