I have always wanted to know what it would be like to live in a loft in Manhattan. Every time I see pictures of loft spaces I just fall all over myself soaking up the brick walls, the wood floors and the large expanses of window.

While most pictures show lofts decorated rather sparsely or with a modern spin, I have to say that I really fell for lofts when I saw Gerard Butler’s “Old World” loft in Architectural Digest. This is my dream loft!
Warm and welcoming, while still open and airy!
What look do you prefer in a loft?
Loved all the pictures! I like the modern look but those last pictures are just gorgeous and so inviting.
ReplyDeleteI'll take any loft that has Gerard in it!!! I would love to have a chance to live in one just to be able to decorate it!!!

Hi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteI lived in a loft--actually it was a penthouse and I decorated it in modern because it just had such clean lines and fit the location. It was awesome with a winding staircase to the built-in loft upstairs too...AND I didn't get a picture of it! Hard to believe!
Thank you so much for voting--that was so sweet of you!!!
Hugs,

I'll admit I wasn't a huge fan of Gerard's loft -- too dark and faux old for my taste. Generally, I like lofts that are open, airy and modern, but with a bit of industrial edge to show their original purpose be it exposed brick work or duct work or even a walled up elevator shaft. That said though, I don't think loft living is really for me -- I like to hide my clutter behind closed doors!
ReplyDeleteALthough I do love the loft look I don't think it's "me" I see it as a lifestyle, a hip city dweller :)
ReplyDeleteI'm more of a craftsman style house on an acre lot . . . perhaps the loft could be my city getaway, yeah, right, LOL

I do not like the modern style at all, though I know there are a lot of people who do...too sterile and impersonal for me. I love a more traditional style with warmth and old brick.
ReplyDeleteI love Gerard's loft...I need that warm cozy feeling. The rest of the lofts look drafty!!

I'm with you, Kathy! I love the look of the last loft! I'm a huge fan of the exposed brick and then when you add those gorgeous chandeliers! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOooo gorgeous! I love the idea of an old world loft! Those pics are amazing. Thanks for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteI love the old brick walls with the whitewashed
ReplyDeletelook and of course all the roomy openess.
Lovely photos for dreaming.

I have always romanticized about a loft - I just love the feel of the open space. And I agree, Mr. Butler's is just about the most amazing space ever!

Well I can see why you posted the one with white floors first, it's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy, I love the look of lofts ... exposed beams, brick walls and usually a gorgeous city view, too! The last one is spectacular! Love how they mixed the crystal chandies in there, too. Luscious!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your sweet words about my adventures this summer. It really was hard to overcome my fear of flying! Thank goodness for magic pills, right?! Have a great day, Becca
Love the pictures, especially the last 4, their my favorites!!!

I didn't have any "lofty" aspirations until I saw Gerards loft~swoon! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of living in a loft. I agree with you that it would be wonderful. But only if it was one that took up an entire floor. No living in 300 ft of space for me. All of these are wonderful examples of magnificent loft living spaces!

I prefer Gerard's style, too. I think I would have a hard time decorating a large open room.
ReplyDeleteI admir a lot of loft interior design as great art work, but not me..All I think about is how impersonal it is, and how much the heating & cooling bill is gonna be :-)
ReplyDeleteVery Inspiring Kathy!!
ReplyDeleteHi ~ Yes, I really enjoy lofts too. It is my dreamy wish to live in a loft someday. Also, your dresser makeover turned out so beautiful.
