Quick Tip

I had this metal tray that I picked up from Goodwill last year.  I just added script scrapbook paper to the bottom with Mod Podge {with some on top to protect it}.

In our new kitchen, I decided I wanted to use it to hold our cooking oils.  This is how I currently had them ~ sitting on paper towel.   I need to find my decorative bottles.  I usually keep these oil containers in a cabinet out of sight, but I like the idea of having them close at hand.

Even with the Mod Podge on top I was afraid it would get some oil residue on the paper.  We had a box of Avery clear page pocket protectors, which I thought would work to protect the bottom of the tray, but also allow me to still see the script paper.

I measured it out with a marker, cut it with scissors and put it in the bottom of the tray.  Now I can have my cooking oils out in my tray and I won’t ruin the paper I had put in the bottom.

You can’t see the plastic, but I can see my pretty scrapbook paper!

  3. Great idea. I have mine on a shelf..sitting on paper towels also. I'm going to have to see what I can find around the house to 'dress' mine up too!

  5. This is a great idea! We also like to keep our oils close at hand, but they look so much better corralled on the tray. It was a brilliant stroke to add the page protector.

Hope all your moving-in processes are going smoothly!

  8. What a wonderful tip! Of course, it got my mind racing to a tray that I have with a removable glass bottom. Hmmm... Hmmmm...

  9. I keep mine in the cabinet on a dishtowel. Every so often, I wipe them down with vinegar and water, and toss the dishtowel in the washer. So easy, sturdy and saves on paper .

  13. Hi Kathy!
How's the house coming along? I bet you have every room already beautifully decorated.
I love the idea of using the little metal container for your kitchen. Pretty clever putting the plastic in the bottom. Love the image you chose too.

  14. Great idea. I was thinking you were going to adhere it to the bottome. Never occurred to me that you could just set it in there!

  16. Your page protector idea is a great solution. It's so difficult to keep splatters off things in the kitchen.

  17. happened upon your blog.....love the makeover on your pretty tray. I bet you could find some nice clear glass bottles to store your oils in, that's what I have done....they are right next to my range for easy use. I have a cute little crock sitting with them that holds my fresh garlic. Happy creating!
