Wow, two hours later I am quite pleased with the way my first lampshade redo turned out. I used a lampshade that was looking beat up, fabric and trim I had on hand and hot glue. Oh, and, of course, the inspiration of many bloggers who have done this before like Sherry, Penny and Sonya. I did use Sherry from Creations From My Heart’s tutorial, which I had up on my laptop as I went along.
This is the shade I started with. I used the iron to soften up the glue holding the top and bottom bindings on the shade so I could pull them off. It looks even uglier at this point.
I made the pattern as Sherry mentions and cut out my fabric. I even ironed it and I hate ironing.
Then started gluing the pieces of fabric on one section at a time until I wound up with this.
Trimmed out the sections.
Then trimmed out the top. The bottom was getting a beaded trim that I’d had for a couple of years now just waiting for a project. Then, as Sherry describes, just glue your trim over that on the bottom.
I think you can see the toile fabric better when the light is off.
Love it! I am just so pleased with the way it turned out. I love that it is in my craft/sewing room because I need the extra light in here and how fitting that something “creative” I made will help me in further creating!

LOVE LOVE LOVE it Kathy!! You just inspired me to do one of mine:) Martina
ReplyDeleteYour lampshade turned out just lovely, Kathy!!! (You can also put the lampshade in the microwave, if it'll fit, but just a few seconds at a time, 20, 30, to loosen up the glue)

ReplyDeleteYou are way too handy! LOL The shade looks cute as can be. Does the bottom of the panels turn under to wrap the shade frame?
ReplyDeleteDid you get my last e-mail re: Thursday? Give me ring. How about that rain tonite- we lost power! :-) Sue
We definitely need LOVE buttons on our blog posts. LOVE LOVE LOVE and I've got to give this a try. Have two shades that I pulled trim off and they are just begging for a redo.

ReplyDeleteO'Kathy, your lamp shade turned out GREAT! I love your choice of fabric and especially that trim. Way to go....you did an excellent job!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks so good, Kathy. The process is a bit scary as it does look worse midway--like most projects! The fabrics and trim you used are just perfect together.
ReplyDeleteI just love this project. I have been wanting to do this forever. We cleaned out the attic this weekend and I found at least ten lampshades up there just waiting for a makeover. Toile makes anything look better. Awesome new look. Love that trim.
ReplyDeleteGreat job. So cute, I like the use of two different fabrics, and of course I always love beaded fringe.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, Kathy,
ReplyDeleteThis is perfection!! You are unbelievable, my friend!! And I love that fabric--Ohh-la-la!

ReplyDeleteI WANT IT!!!! I am going to have to make one of these! You inspired me! I would be honored f you would share over at my Linky Party!!!
ReplyDeleteReally, really pretty. I have redone lampshades but never quite this way; what an excellent idea. Yours is georgous.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous lampshade! I think this is my favorite one I've seen this year!
ReplyDeleteI was enjoying looking at your blue dresser makeover this morning when this post on your side bar drew my attention like a magnet. I love this more then you know. I have a very small lamp shade that I want to redo since I cannot find another one in the same size that has a hole for a finial as mine does. I can only find the small shades with those attachments that clip onto the bulbs. Anyway, I've been thinking of how to redo it myself as it is shaped very similar to yours but very small. This has given me the inspiration to just do it. I love your tip about loosening the glue on the existing trim. Fantastic redo and instructions. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWow! I know this is an older post of yours but I just happened to run across you over at Debbiedoo's place! I LOVE that lampshade! And I happen to have one of similar shape that has some staining (how, I have NO IDEA!) Must have been that "It Wasn't Me" person who hangs around too much! Thanks for sharing that and giving me yet ANOTHER project for my list!
ReplyDeleteI'm your newest follower!
Gorgeous! I have some lampshades just this style that need covering. I love the script on yours.
ReplyDeleteFound you at Make it Pretty Monday. You have a beautiful blog here. I'm your newest follower :)

Wow!! I love how you did this. Lampshade re-do's have always been so intimidating to me when they are curvy or detailed but the way that you did this is brilliant! I have two similar shades that need a makeover so I'm going to give this method a try. Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeletexo,
Kathleen
Okay, now I'm inspired! I have a handful of really sad looking shades. I'll have to start pulling out fabric! Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay
