On a recent visit to the local antique and flea mart, I saw this little terrarium. I say little, but it is a perfect size tabletop piece.
It is not made with real glass {I think it’s plexi-glass} , which is probably just as well, but it definitely caught my eye and I kept coming back to it. For $8.00 I had to get it!
Each side of the top flips open and the whole top is removable.
After a clean up, I wanted to play with it a little bit. A faux Maidenhair fern that was sitting nearby.
Some faux boxwood tucked into a creamer, two stacked brown transferware cups and saucers and a little ceramic bird, all sitting on one of my ruffled runners.
Changed out the teacups for a book stack wrapped in stamped muslin.
Creamer removed and I just laid the boxwood on the bottom, the same books and my battery operated monogram candle.
Another faux arrangement taken from another room and a small green and pink cabbage leaf teapot.
I know that terrariums are known for plants, so I am going to look for some small plants to put in it. Then I just need to find a place for it in my sunroom. Here are some terrariums that inspired me.

What a asteal deal- $8!!!
ReplyDeleteOH how I would love love love to have found that!
If you do real plants violets especially love terrarium life. They require very little water and nearly none in a terra - and they hate a chill, so it keeps them warm in there and they will make the prettiest flowers for you in their happy home.
I think you need to rub some Annie Sloan dark wax on it to make it less bright white and give it an aged look - otherwise, wow wow wow!
WELL DONE!
I like all your samplings of vigniettes, too, such eye candy!
Love it Kathy..great how you can transform it for many occasions/seasons...i had a large one before I moved and gave it to my sister..miss it..but it has a good home now..I enjoy it when I visit!...Have fun with it!!!

Hi Kathy, Love the new terrarium! I need to get mine back out. I STILL have not put my house back together since Christmas. That's why I haven't posted any decorating pics lately. Just been working on this craft room and orders...
ReplyDeleteI have one wall to the left of the curtains I am going to put a small bookcase on to house my frames. There will a little bit of space on that wall. I really like the basket idea! It might work for some of the flowers. I have never ordered this many before =0 Since I'm busier I need to have enough stock so I'm not running around town trying to find something. That happens alot! I do have some room in my closet for some of them too, but I know they are not all going to fit. I am definitely going to keep your idea in mind. Thanks for the imput!! Kristen
Wow! What a sweet find for $8!
ReplyDeleteI'm really enjoying your blog! I'll be back again soon!

Great find!
ReplyDeleteWhat a good find! As you've shown you can do so many things with it.
ReplyDeleteIt is sweet! I think you will get great use from it!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I love that thing! I really love the simple yet elegant look of the potted greens.
ReplyDeleteMy mom gave me one shaped as a triangle with a shabby finish and no glass. I put a resin cross inside it that has a verse about thankfulness and then I added some greenery. Perfect for the kitchen table!
