Well, I’ve given up on finding the shutters I had hoped for to flank either side of this picture over the fireplace. You might remember when I posted about it {here} popular opinion suggested something on either side.
I thought shutters appropriate in size to the area would look good. I’ve been looking for months and they are either too long, too short, or too wide. While in Hobby Lobby the other day, I saw these pieces and thought “hmmm, maybe”.
So I picked them up figuring if it didn’t work out, I could just return them. Well, they are long enough and wide enough and I think they work! What do you think?
The mantel has been decorated this way since after Valentine’s Day. When I find a set up I like it usually stays that way. I imagine this will be like this for several months.
Watch, next week I find the perfect shutters.
Kathy- I really like the filigree look of it. Very pretty...kind of romantic really. It does fill the area nicely. Yep- You know for sure you will find the perfect shutters next week now!;>) xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThat's how it works...of course you'll find the perfect shutters next week. It's very beautiful and I like the airy feel it gives to the mantel. The shutters might have felt too heavy.
ReplyDeleteOh Kathy, that looks so pretty. Really makes the fp a beautiful focal point. Good job girl!
ReplyDeleteKathy, this is amazing! I just love the way the metal pieces frame the picture! I have always loved your picture too. Your mantel is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, Kathy! It looks complete now. I have such a hard time with my mantel...it's a mish mash of spring and who knows what!
ReplyDeleteXO,

Kathy your mantel looks beautiful! Light and airy for the summer months. If you find shutters maybe you could use them in the winter months.
ReplyDeleteI may have the perfect thing for you. Interested. They are a shade of nice green, but you could paint them. Without measuring just guessing they are about 2 -2 1/2 feet tall. If you are interested I could send you a picture.
ReplyDeleteOh Kathy, that's looks PERFECT and even if you find the shutters, I don't think I would change a thing! I love it!! Since being back, I'm trying to play catch-up with my favorite blogs. Enjoy your day, Gail

Kathy, I love what you did with the fireplace. The picture and the iron looks great together. I love all the black and white. I just joined your blog and hope you will join me to read all about Missouri Farm Life and much more.
ReplyDeleteYou know Kathy, I think I might like it better without the top piece. To me, it seems to kind of "box" things in and lower the ceiling. I love the side pieces, they really compliment your art.
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteI love the look of your mantel! The scrolly brackets are just perfect. It's all so pretty.

I love your wrought iron pieces. Maybe I could do something similar with my bird pictures in my powder bath. Your clock is beautiful. I miss the chime my mom's had. I used to listen for the sound to figure how much time I had to get to school when I was young.
ReplyDeleteI think they were a great find!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a lovely Easter.
Carolyn
The scrollwork is very pretty, light and airy with a touch of elegance. I might like it better without the top piece. My first thought, before I saw your solution, was I'd take a bigger version of the topiaries you have there and move them over closer to the picture, where the picture frames are. I've learned with mantles it looks good if you try for design that makes a triangle pattern when you look at it. Found a good post on Pinterest about it with examples.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog....I am so sorry to ask, but how do I turn off word verification?
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that I've found your creativehomeexpressions.blogspot.com site. You truly can write and teach and inspire. Keep writing - I'll keep reading.
