Quick and Inexpensive Spring Project

I have a quick and inexpensive project for you today.  You can easily adapt this to any season but this one is going to be for Spring and specifically for Easter.  You will need peat pots ~ any size will do.  Mine happen to be the small ones and I think they cost me all of $1.39 for the package of 15 pots.

Paint color of your choice.  I use Antique White craft paint, which I keep on hand; scrapbook paper, book pages, sheet music, anything you want to layer underneath the image; shredded paper or Easter grass; seam binding, ribbon, string, jute, whatever you might have on hand to use for decoration and as a handle, if you want one; and any other bits and pieces you have to decorate it.

I used mostly scrap bits and those small pieces of scrapbook paper I always have left over, but feel they could be good for something somewhere along the line, so I don’t throw them out.  I used a download offered by Julie at EAB Designs here {thanks, Julie!}.  Julie did cones, but I am cutting out the image to attach to the peat pots. I printed mine out on cream colored card stock.

Give an imperfect coat of paint to your peat pot and put aside to dry.  It dries pretty quickly, so while you are waiting you can choose what you will want to attach to your peat pot and cut it.

I used two decorative cutting scissors.  One is called “Victorian” and the other is a simple scallop.

I used Mod Podge to attach everything to the peat pot.   Since I am making these to be little Easter basket/tablesetting pieces I made five.  The two for the males of the family I just cut into a scallop and put them on the pot on their own. 

For the females of the family, I added some pretty papers behind the bunny image.  For my daughter, a page from a Jane Austen book that I received from a swap and some cream seam binding.

For mine, a pretty brown and cream large floral toile scrapbook paper with some tan seam binding.

And for my granddaughter, the same brown and cream floral toile cut into a band to go around the pot with cream and tan seam binding.  I also added a brown leaf garland piece as a handle and stuck a few pieces in the seam binding that is hanging down the sides.

You can continue to decorate it adding buttons or other embellishments.  Add some shredded paper or Easter grass, and any little goodies you’d like, and you’ve got a pretty little decoration for your table or anywhere you’d like to display it!

You can be assured that the faux eggs will be removed and they will have an abundance of Cadbury eggs!
