Remaking A Sign

I found these signs at Christmas Tree Shop on clearance from $4.99 to $2.49.

I’ve been wanting to do a sign over a doorway and I thought these would make for a nice base ~ remade, of course!

I decided to do one for me and have it say Pantry and I offered one to my daughter and she said she would like hers to say Powder Room {I’ll show that one in a separate post}.   I decided to try out the new French Linen {ASCP} paint I just picked up recently and my mix of plaster of paris and white paint for the inset.

I used some graphite paper and printed up the word in a font I liked.  I had to do some taping together because the font was too big for one piece of paper.  This font is called Precious and this is a font size of 275.  My daughter liked the same font but her font size is 250.

Lots of fun dealing with the curlicues involved in this font! Of course, I had to pick one of the most detailed fonts!  I went over it with a pencil first and then went over the transfer with a black paint pen {fine tip}.

I filled it in with the paint pen as well, but then went over it again with some black craft paint and a small brush.

Since I am such a shaky person {another reason this probably wasn’t a good project for me}, to help blend any lines better, I decided to sand over the wording and the frame portion.

It’s a little hard to see in the pictures, but I think it gives it a more aged look.   You can probably see the sanding better in some close ups.

I am loving my new Pantry sign, which will be going here.

I plan on getting the paint for this area next week and hope to remove stuff from the walls and do any spackling first.  I’ve chosen a very light color to help brighten this area up since there is no window on this side of our condo.   And that will be a whole other post!

  8. I love that font, but if I used it I would skip my coffee LOL! I think youo did great, I love using a paint pen, I have had more success with that than a paint brush
