You might remember that I showed you this egg basket that I bought at the Springfield Antique Market almost two weeks ago.
I wanted the basket for holding toilet paper in the main bathroom. I had thought I would paint it with my ASCP French Linen, but I quickly realized that not only would it take forever, but the potential for drips would be great.
I headed to Ace and found this grey spray paint. Rustoleum’s Metallic Aluminum. I love their “2x coverage” paint. I gave it a quick and light spray {to avoid drips}. In hindsight, I probably should have gone with the grey primer I had also been considering as an option.
Then I came in with the ASCP French Linen and put it on kind of dry brushy. I still wasn’t happy with it, so I mixed up some black craft paint and water, put that on and then wiped it off quickly with a paper towel. I worked in sections so it wouldn’t dry too quickly. Now, I was happy with the look! It has a galvanized bucket type color to it now.
I also wanted to add some kind of label to it and when I saw this little metal loop, I knew it should definitely have something.
I found this little round disc label I kept from something I bought and printed up the number 3 in Precious font. I printed one for each side.
I glued them to each side with craft glue, poked a hole through where the original hole had been in the tag and threaded some grey seam binding that I had through it. I tied that onto the metal loop.
I also added two seam binding loopy bows to each side using three shades of grey.
Fill with toilet paper and done! The last thing I need to do in this bathroom is the framing around the mirror. I will not be making my own, so it will be a choice between kits.
Any thoughts as to Mirror Mates or Mirror Makeover? I think the pricing is pretty much the same, but I’d like to hear any reviews if you’ve used either one.

Hi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteYour egg basket went from the barn to your beautiful bathroom in grand style!
Love the paint treatment and adding the ribbon and those cute tags just made it perfect.
hugs
Sissie
You did a great job remaking that basket :)
ReplyDeleteLove the look of it now! I'm also looking into mirror framing so I am interested in any comments or reviews you get on that part.
ReplyDeleteLove what you did with the baskets. I love Mirror Mates. If you stop by and check out my master bathroom post you can see the transformation using Mirror Mates. It was so simple and they had a huge array of choices.
ReplyDeleteLooks great Kathy!
ReplyDeleteI got a basket for TP too, although I'm leaving mine as is :)
ReplyDeleteAhhh, something that's been done on the to-do list for a couple of years now, frames around the windows, I have just about given up on that project LOL
xoxo
Your basket looks so pretty. I love the numbered tag. Really nice touch. And I'm so slow...just realized that when someone types ASCP - it means Annie Sloan chalk paint. Where have I been???? Just ordered my first to AS colors!

Your basket went from plain to fabulous with the new paint job, Kathy! Good luck deciding on your mirror solution. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the colors of gray!

Very cute TP basket...I need something like that! Who would think TP could be displayed so cute.
ReplyDeleteLove it Kathy..
ReplyDeleteI found a large wicker basket at goodwill for mine..
we girls and our baskets Huh? LOL
Your dim lighting style is remarkable, along with the color tone of the offset greyish colors. Nothing too bold, I love it!!

Things are looking lovely in your new home!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea for this basket in the bathroom. Thanks
ReplyDeleteL-O-V-E IT!
ReplyDeleteYour basket is great, it's fun to add a little of this and that and wala perfect!! I love framed mirrors, why couldn't you go to hobby lobby or Joannes and get a frame, they make them so that you can buy the height and length in 2 different sets and snap them together to fit the mirror, just a thought?

Looks fabulous, Kathy!
ReplyDeleteI love how your basket turned out! I just had a similar experience spray painting and painting a basket about 4 or 5 different colors until I finally found what I liked. Love it in your beautiful bathroom! ~ Jamie
ReplyDeleteYour egg basket turned out great Kathy! I get a lot of compliments with the egg basket I have in the powder room holding toilet paper. Enjoy your evening, Gail
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteIt's an adorable way to use the egg basket.
Dee
My egg basket looks almost identical to yours before you painted it....still a yellow hue....and still waiting for the "epiphany" to figure out what to do with it...love it in your bathroom....
ReplyDeletei really love your basket, and the cute tag, kathy:) seam binding is the greatest! cute shower curtain--love the little ruffles!
ReplyDeleteThat is one classy t.p. holder! I don't have the patience (bad me) to do things like make labels. I enjoy seeing them, wish somebody sold them, and that is as far as I get. I would hate for you to see how my canisters (mercifully in the pantry) are labeled: Avery file folder labels, scrawled with a Sharpie! Truly sad...
ReplyDeleteIf anyone ever told me there was no way to make toilet paper storage attractive, I'd tell them they had to see yours!!! That is so darn sweet! It has an innocent, vintage, cottage look that is fabulous. You always amaze me.
ReplyDeleteKathy, all you efforts really paid off as this looks like a pricey high end egg basket now. I love the look! Hey what is ASCP paint?
ReplyDeleteDonna
Cute basket and I love the tags!! I'm going to redo my mirror when I revamp the bathroom. I'm anxious to see which one you decide to go with@
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. I really like your tag and you refinished the basket. Nice bathroom too.
ReplyDeleteOh this turned out so cute!!
ReplyDeleteMe? I would've left the basket as is, because it's so cute? You? Because you have the greater vision, you created something so much more interesting! And the loopy bows are the perfect added touch. Very pretty and interesting, Kathy! I love it! ~Zuni
ReplyDeleteLove your basket for your bathroom! So cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog too!
FABULOUS!!!!! And so darn useful!! I would have came in handy today when I got stranded... oh goodness not fun! hehe
ReplyDeleteI really hope you come over to The DIY Dreamer and share this at From Dream To Reality!
I need something like this for my teensy bathroom. There's just almost no room to put anything!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
we bought a spec home that a builder and his designer wife built this year. She put in one of the mirror kits on the mirro in the master bathroom. It looks ok, but I would go with making my own if I were you. I plan to remove the kit one and have a "real wood" one made. Just my 2 cents from someone who has the kit one and wishes she didn't have it.
ReplyDeleteLove your new toilet paper holder. So clever and cute all at once!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great piece and that little loop was just beging for your personal touch. It turned out so well-you must be thrilled.
