Ceiling Fan Options

With the recent heat wave, I mentioned to my hubby that I think we should consider getting a ceiling fan for the living room.  It is open to the dining room and with the high ceilings in both areas, I think it would be a smart move.  There is a plate in the ceiling for a light fixture, so it would just be a matter of finding one and hubby installing it.

After I mentioned it, he happened to be heading to Home Depot and wanted to know if I wanted him to pick one up.  No.  No. No.  Because this is what he would have come home with.

I went online looking for what I have in my mind and this is what I came up with.

ceilingfan

The one above takes two 40 watt bulbs and I don’t know if that would provide enough overhead lighting for the space.   Although, I don’t see us using it on a regular basis.  The pink is supposed to be “interchangeable”.  The next one takes four 40 watt bulbs.

It also comes with a remote, which would be great with the fan/light that high up.  I’m kind of leaning toward this one.  I think I can get hubby on board if I say the word “remote”.   Finally, the third option.  I’m loving the scrolly design on this one and the shaped paddles.

These fans range from $225.00 to $345.00 with free shipping.  Wish me luck!

  10. I wrote a longer than usual comment and then forgot to send it..I guess..Ceiling fans are wonderful..couldn't sleep without mine..but..Do you really need a light up there?? Do you have one now?? It will show all the cobwebs up there and probably not provide any beneficial light..I vote for fan only...Think about dusting, changing the light bulbs...

  13. Okay, so now I want to replace all our ceiling fans after seeing those pictures. They are wonderful and ours have stopped working after 30 years. Hum, a remote. That might work on my husband too. It must be a guy thing.

  14. I am not particularly a "fan of fans" but the one you chose is very nice!!!....I love the chandy look to it as it serves a dual purpose of practicality and "prettiness!

  16. I know what you mean about the "hub's choice". I hear the words, "perfectly serviceable" a lot. Hard choice to make Kathy, I'm liking #2. Can't wait to see what you choose!

  19. I LOVE the middle fan! Like - I seriously want that for my bedroom! Where did you find it? I want to redo our bedroom. I love a chandelier, but my husband loves a fan. And, truthfully, I enjoy sleeping with a fan. I could live without it for the beauty of a chandelier, but this would allow us to both have what we want! Beautiful!

  23. I own the last ceiling fan, and really like it, but it is huge, came in lots do pieces and took forever to be put together. Plus, it's extremely heavy. I've hung ceiling fans in the past, but couldn't do this one, I had to pay someone to do it for me.

Once it was done, I was very pleased with it, but I spent much more than planned.

  24. Smart move not letting the husband pick one up! I like the 2nd one best. We have four ceiling fans in our house and they were all here when we moved in. The remote control is a great option.

  25. Good call not letting your hubby pick it out:)
They ceratainly keep the air moving and cool things off but i am not a fan of ceiling fans and if I did install one, I think I would get something classic and not fussy.

  26. I think it’s a really good idea to install a ceiling fan to help circulate the air and control the temperature of the room. So, what ceiling fan did you end up installing? For me, the last one would really look good in your living room.
