Lazy? Maybe. I prefer to think of it as being creative using what I’ve got. I have no room in our new place to store everyday things to make room for seasonal decorating. I try to incorporate seasonal décor into my existing décor whenever I can. I decided to try this idea for several topiaries I have throughout our home. This is one of two on our fireplace mantel.
I picked up some berry picks at Christmas Tree Shops for $.69 each and cut them apart.
I then placed the smaller berry picks, that I got from cutting, into the topiaries.
Instant Christmas décor and I didn’t spend a lot of money or have to store them! Here’s one from our kitchen {that I moved to get better light for the photo}.
I even added some to my ivy topiary on the hall tree in our very small entry.
After Christmas, I can just remove the berries and we’re back to normal.

Hi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteI'm all for using what you have to create Christmas decor and also to incorporate it into your existing decor. I'm having to do this too because of limited storage and living space. Love the little topiary with the added berries.

Smart idea! I love tweeking instead of re-doing a space. Saves so much time and energy. I don't have a topiary. I need to make one, I picked up a form at GW but never got around to making it. You have inspired me to get busy and make one. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteKathy- What a wonderful little pop of red here and there. Great idea- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Love that look and love the repurposing.
ReplyDeleteI think of it as creative too Kathy. I do the same thing. What a cute idea, and it made such a difference.
ReplyDeleteOh I love this idea. So perfect. I hate to have to pull all those boxes down from the attic, such a pain. Looks amazing. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea. I spent last night trying to find a temporary home for all the things I had to move to make room for the Christmas decor.
ReplyDeleteKathy,
ReplyDeletethis is one of the BEST and most creative posts I have seen , especially for the Holiday season.
I have room to store things but I am so tired of dragging it in and out, and even more tired of storing it all. Its just not making sense to me like it did when I was younger.
thanks for the great tips and please share more if you have them.
love how yours looks~!
xoxo

great idea! I am more and more drawn to simpler, elegant christmas decor (although you wouldn't know it from looking at my overflowing house!)
ReplyDeleteTime and storage saver!

Kathy, you are very creative and so smart, I just love your ideas. Just the simple act of adding red berries and they look stunning! I love to add red to my white kitchen and white to my grey living room......I have hats and coats for my bears and little touches of greenery to what is already out on display. You previous post on the tray is fabulous! I have been searching for citra- solve or whatever it is to do transfers but it isn't here in Canada, your mod podge transfer is the answer!!!

Kathy, what a clever idea! I get a cheap thrill out of using what I already have, too! The topiaries look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteGood Afternoon Kathy, I love, love, red and green for Christmas. This is such a good idea, I have a few things which I could add red berries to, so thank you for the idea. Have a lovely day. Best Wishes Daphne

ReplyDeleteActually I think that's a marvelous idea! I'm always for using what you have in a new way.
ReplyDeleteKathy,
ReplyDeleteI love what you did, I think it is a great idea and looks so pretty. Subtle changes make a huge difference.

They turned out great. I love the idea of using your existing decor. It makes decorating so much easier with less to store.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Christmas now!! I don't have any storage either, something about the water level and Florida...I keep looking for that basement!

What a great idea, and wonderful results. I really like decor that is simple, rustic, natural. The big, dramatic displays are beautiful, of course, but your simple ones are more the kind that speak to my heart.
ReplyDeleteLove the simplicity, yet it is very festive! Such pretty topiaries.

Hi Kathy, I do the same thing. It is so much fun to use what you already have just adding a bit of winter to bring out the Christmas feel. Your talents are an inspiration to me and your decor looks wonderful. I love your topiaries. This year at the Dollar Tree, I found great items to add on my mantel and such. Little money, easy and nice results.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing.

Berry, Berry sweet! Thanks for stopping by with your well wishes!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great idea! I wish my family would let me downscale decorating. It's exhausting! Have a lovely weekend, it's going to be beautiful! E
ReplyDeletesuch a clever idea! i'm trying hard to stay simple this year, and using your everyday stuff makes that easy!
ReplyDeletelove the topiaries!
No, not lazy...you did the right thing by enhancing your existing beautiful topiaries with seasonal decor...I just love using existing items and then spruce them up for the holidays...Great job Kathy!
ReplyDeletegreat idea! I'm going for a more simple look too...but gosh, it's hard! LOL!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea, Kathy. I hate putting things away to get the holiday stuff out. I like this idea of the berries in the existing plants. Thanks.
