I certainly don’t believe it. Usually when I decide to look for something to start a collection, that’s when I don’t find them! I just posted last week about how I lucked out and found a tureen at Goodwill. The other day, I decided to stop at the local antique mart since I hadn’t been in since November.
I found this tureen as I was doing my peeking into booths to see what was what. No price, but the booth vendor was there and said $5.00. Sold! It was filthy, but a run through the dishwasher cleaned her up nicely. Here is how the collection looks right now.
As a bonus, I found these two Friendly Village dinner plates.
I wasn’t even looking for these, but I thought I saw what looked like transferware peeking out from dishes that were on top of these. When I moved the other dishes out of the way, I saw these.
I’ve been looking for some Friendly Village dishes since their scenes are so pretty. Finding two worked out well for me, since it is just the two of us now. I try to just buy two plates if I see a dish pattern I like. For $3.00 a piece they came home with me, too.
Pretty good for a spur-of-the-moment stop and $11.00! If my luck holds out, I might be able to get the last tureen I need within the next few weeks {instead of months}.

Good for you! It's so funny because I'm trying to find something and now that it's on my mind, I can't find it anywhere but I know once I stop focusing on it, I'll find it. Nothing exciting - just a gingham shirt. But you get the point. =)

ReplyDeleteI have loved Friendly Village china since I first set eyes on it - but with all the sets of dishes/china I already have collected, I don't know if I have room..............oh wait! I emptied out some things I hadn't used in quite a while and took the to Goodwill........I have an entire cabinet I could fill.

I was fortunate enough to inherit my mother-in-law's 12 piece place seting of Friendly Village. I am always on the look out for additional pieces. You really got a deal on those plates! I just got 4 mugs at $4 each.

Hi Kathy, your soup tureen collection looks wonderful there above your cupboards. I don't believe that I know another person that collects them, but yours are so pretty, that you may have many followers see them and start collecting, too :)
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely Valentine's Day.
Your blogging sister, Connie :)
You've lucked out on your finds Kathy. I am like you normally are and only find what I was looking for after I've given up and picked out something else. You got the tureen for a great deal. I highly suspect the people who run the local thrift stores must read blogs to know what is popular because these like this are way too expensive here.
ReplyDeleteYou may know I have a weakness for plates, so I really like theones you got. So perfect for the fall and winter months with the darker colors. Can't way to see a tablesetting with these new finds!
Hope you are having a great week!
Kathy,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your treasures at my party...love those beautiful plates and the tureen was a steal:)
Blessings,
Linda
Between you and Marty...you two always find the greatest things at the GW!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely tureen and the Friendly Village plates were a great find. I saw a single saucer at the estate sale I just posted about, and they wanted $10 for it. I bought a large white platter and two little ironstone pitchers all for $5 instead.
ReplyDeleteLucky you! I LOVE Friendly Village! Blessings, Tammy
ReplyDeletelove both finds! The tureen collection is looking good. And I'm pretty sure I have one of those plates hanging in my sunporch. The village scene is so pretty. Mine is a church I think. Little Bit from www.DecorateWithaLittleBit.com
ReplyDeleteOh Kathy I am so in love with your new treasures!! I keep hoping to luck up on some brown transferwear. Great finds. Thanx for sharing at THT.
ReplyDeleteWOW...you ARE the lucky girl! I see some but never with such pretty lines....once or twice I'v snagged one though! They look great on top of the cabinets!
