I love participating in the Where Bloggers Create blog party, not only to get inspiration for my own space, but to show others it doesn’t matter how big your space to create in is. Plus, it forces me to do a clear out and clean up! You can see my previous year's posts, 2010, 2011 and 2012. A big thank you to Karen {My Desert Cottage}, for hosting this blog party again this year!
My craft/sewing room is what was called a Storage Room in our condo, but seemed to me to be just perfect for me to set up my space, when we moved here back in September, 2011. Last year, I made a few changes shortly after the Where Bloggers Create 2012 blog party. I knew the next one would creep up quickly and I wanted to make the changes while I was feeling gung-ho about them. One of the first things I did was to paint the two tables I have in here white, using Pure White chalk paint from Annie Sloan.
The second thing I updated was that I brought in a couple of bins to hold my fabric. I had one and found a similar second bin at Michael’s. Of course, it is still too much fabric! While I have been trying to make a dent in it, it keeps magically getting filled up! So far, my recent clear out has helped.
The third thing I did was add some quotes that I had been saving for awhile now. I grabbed some picture plaques that I had gotten from the dollar store and Mod Podged these quotes {from the back of a magazine that I don’t think is available anymore} and some scrapbook paper to them. I like that they were colorful and the size filled a blank spot over one of my shelves nicely.
Plus, I like that they relate to the “creative” theme for this room.
Now onto the pictures of my room this year, without too much talking! Welcome to my craft/sewing room.
To the left I have a screen that I use to hide the mechanicals that are my roommates. It is multi-functional because it also holds some tags and things for my Etsy.
Next to that is a small table which holds a lot of things, both underneath and on the one shelf, as well as small things in the small drawer space.
I try to keep the top clear, but it doesn’t always work out that way! I’m sure many of you have the same problem. I’m hoping to give that lampshade a new look by next year’s party, but I’ve been putting it off since I don’t even have power in this spot yet.
I did manage to clean up the tiered baskets holding way too much stuff.
The shelf over the small table.
Continuing along, I have two shelves over bookcases I found at Target online. Their size was perfect for this area. This bookcase holds supplies like stamps, ink, styrofoam balls, cork, my glue gun, peat pots, small boxes, old ribbon spools, that kind of thing.
I prefer clear storage so I can see what is inside even though I do like the pretty boxes and containers.
The next section of bookcase holds all my Etsy inventory.
My sewing table is skirted for looks, but it also helps to hide things underneath like bags of fiberfil, batting, and a tin of laces.
I’m ashamed to say that I have had my new Brother sewing embroidery machine for over a year and I still haven’t sat down to figure out the embroidery portion.
The shelf over the sewing table holds a few decorative items, including swap gifts and gifts from other bloggy friends, along with their note cards. I always enjoy looking at these when I’m in here and sometimes I reread the cards.
The wire shelving was already here and I brought in everything else, including the small blingy chandelier.
Thank you for visiting my craft/sewing room! You couldn’t swing a cat in here, but the size works well for me and I hope this might inspire others to set up a creative space for themselves using whatever space they might have available.
I am looking forward to visiting everyone’s creative spaces again this year! I always get such great ideas and inspiration.
Your creative space is wonderful. I see blissful happiness with all that surrounds you here. The chandelier is the perfect touch. Happiness is where your Creative Heart is...

Well, I'm pretty sure I can't even barely swing my own ARMS in MY creative space, but that's o.k.! I feel sure the room will work well for me too!.. at least better than having everything scattered all over the house!.. LOVE your craft/sewing room! I've used those same shelves in my kids' rooms, and loved them! It was fun for them to not only place things on, but to hang some of their favorite things too!.. Loved the pretty and creative little touches all about your room; especially the picture-plaque wall quotes! Love those! I MIGHT be able to do something like that with a little 5x7 plaque, to hang in that empty space next to my polka-dot bulletin board, ya think?!!! (0; Thank you so much for the tour, and have a great week ahead! ~tina

Oh, I love your creative space. It is whimsical and charming just like the items you create. Don't feel bad about the embroidery option - I've had my machine for 5 years and still haven't tried the embroidery because I've been too busy sewing other things. One of these days - oh well, you know how that goes. I'll probably be ready for another of your adorable towels too soon. Keep creating and enjoy your space. Peggy Renie
ReplyDeleteI love the black and white graphics in your studio! Have to laugh about the Brother embroidery machine you haven't learned yet. My husband gave me a Bernina serger 15 years ago. I still can't make it work right!!
