Since I put the white chair slips for our dining chairs away last month, I decided to make a set out of drop cloth. I found this drop cloth at Lowe’s and it looked softer than the regular drop cloth, even in the package. After a wash it was feeling even softer. I measured out a seat on the drop cloth and cut it, then used that as a template for the other three.
I cut along the long side {4 1/2 inches wide and the length of the drop cloth} to make my ruffle, sewing two lengths together and sewed it on the seat piece. You can see in the background of this picture the fabric that these chairs came with.
I was able to make all four in an afternoon.
Now I just need to make ties for them and I have enough drop cloth left over to easily do that. The color of the drop cloth is that oatmeal color so it is more fitting for the colder months. Then, come Spring/Summer, I will bring out the white ones again.
I feel like I actually accomplished something on a dreary and cold afternoon.
