Master Bedroom Rework

SONY DSC

Yes, a rework for a little bit of a new look.  I had just gotten this room to where I was happy with it, too.  How is it that you go looking for a new mattress for your Queen size bed and wind up purchasing a new King size mattress?  We needed a new mattress and hubby took this time to let me know he wanted to go to a King.  Here is the before of our bedroom.

Here is the new look, in progress, since I’m still tweaking.

I loved the wrought iron bed displays we were seeing, and have always loved the Wesley Allen beds.  We visited a store that had similar to the Wesley Allen except they were less expensive.  For some reason I can just picture this bed at Christmas time with either a wreath or stockings at the footboard.

It was great to get some new things for our bedroom, but it really wound up stumping me.   It took me a good month to come up with something that had me liking our bedroom as much as I did before the new bed.   Since I took down the bed crown canopy because I thought it looked much too small for this size bed, I wanted to put something else in its place.  I decided on this Hotel de Paris sign, which I first showed you here.

I was able to hang it on the screws that had held the bed crown up.  I rehung the Ballard copycat shadowboxes I made over the bed this time.

I’ve got my eye on a new pair of lamps that I saw at Home Goods to replace the two I have here now.  I’m not sure if I’m going to look for something to hang over the side tables or not.  I was thinking shutters since I liked that look in our guest room, but I’ll wait and see on that.

I’m just happy to have this room at a point where I don’t hate it!

  3. OOOhhhh a King mattress and new bed - how nice - everytime we stay in a nice hotel with kings I wish we had gone that route. BUT the mattress (Queen) we bought cost a metric boatload and we are not going to replace anytime soon.

Your butterfly wrought iron design bed is gorgeous and I love how it looks with your new L'hotel de Paris sign - you do such awesome crafts. Your Ballard knock-off shadowboxes are to die for awesome and everything really looks good together.

I actually really like those bedroom lamps, what's your thoughts behind replacing, just wondering.

    Hugs.

  11. Looks lovely Kathy. I love the pillows and the hotel sign. A king size bed has a way of taking over the room and it can be a struggle to get the look you want, but I believe you've achieved it!
    Still working on mine.

  12. Oh, wow, how nice to go to a king size! I love the iron bed, and think you should send me your old one, since we're still stuck with a queen! :D

  13. It looks really nice, Kathy. I like it a lot. We went to a King Size bed in this house when we moved in and I would never go back now. Love it-especially when we have grandkids pile in to watch cartoons in the morning- xo Diana

  14. Kathy,
Your re-do with your new iron bed is lovely and all of the new accents make it just perfect. One of these days I should get around to posting pics of our 1800's iron bed and bedroom. Enjoy!

  17. I'm sure it's hard getting used to a new look, but it really is so pretty! And trust me, King is king! We've had a California King for years, and other than the fact that it needs special sized linens, it's been great! (My husband put his foot down when I was very pregnant and our 30 pound dog slept with us and we only had a full sized mattress!) I absolutely love that bed frame and you HAVE to hang two stockings there!

  18. Gorgeous bed Kathy….I have a Wesley Allen bed in my guest room…I got a great deal on it at High Point…a $1,700 bed for $500…for that price we changed the queen bed to a king like you…as the bed frame was too great of a deal to pass up…Love your new look of the room and sounds like a domino effect will be going on!

  24. Your bedroom is so pretty Kathy! I am so ready to redo mine. Thanks for your nice comments on my mantel! It is the only decorating I have done so far. I still have my fall stuff sitting in the floor..lol. I cut back on decorating houses due to being so busy with my store but am decorating my friend's house on Tues. Thanks again!!

  25. Very pretty! I like both looks. We bought a new mattress in July and I hate it now! So we've been shopping for a mattress again. I am thinking about going king but then you need to buy new sheets etc.

  27. The bed is gorgeous. I really like the Hotel sign too. The coverlet folded at the foot of the bed looks like the set I bought for my Cassie's 1st Place of her Own.
