Hydrangeas From Aldi’s

SONY DSC

I bought these lovely hydrangeas from Aldi’s recently.

They had a special at $5.99 each.  I bought three.  One is definitely going in the urn by our front door {where it will get some shade}.  I’m not sure if I will use another in the garage door urn or plant the remaining two within the garden bed out front.  If you remember, I shared an inspiration picture of a hydrangea in a window box that I liked in this post.

Our first Spring here, I put in three pink hydrangeas on the front side of our condo, where there were some lonely hostas.  They filled in this area quite nicely and are doing very well.

Spring ~ 2013

I’m hoping these new ones will do just as well. I’d like to give this area a nice filled in look with some perennials and annuals this year.  Especially after removing an overgrown evergreen and replacing it with a small Japanese Maple.

September ~ 2013

At any rate, I still have time to decide on what I’m doing because it is not warm enough here yet.  So for now, I will be enjoying these hydrangeas in the house!

  1. I love hydrangea... yours are so pretty!

It is still too cold to work outdoors here too, but the robins and hummingbirds have just arrived. :)

    Have a lovely one,

  2. These are beautiful, Kathy. I've loved hydrangeas ever since I was a child and first noticed the huge blue hydrangea blooms at my grandmother's home. They will always remind me of her! :)

  3. Very pretty! I hope my hydrangea bush does well this year. It's a bug magnet but I love arranging them in a pitcher for the patio table.

  5. Hi Kathy, I love hydrangeas and yours are gorgeous from Aldi's. We have one here too but I have not been over in awhile. You got a great price.
Gorgeous outside space you have planted too. My hydrangea garden is growing up right now and I can see the difference each day.

    Have a great day.

  6. Hi Kathy,
Hope you had a good Easter. It was beautiful here in your former home island! It is so funny you mention Aldi's. We never had them here, but they opened one in Riverhead a few months ago. It is a few stores down from Cmas Tree. The first time I went I thought it was very odd, no name brands, shopping out of the boxes, no bags and NO credit cards. But I went back and I found a few things I liked, sweet potatoes for .33 a lb, and pineapples for 1.00! There's never anyone in the store!
I saw the hydrangeas, I was tempted. Hope you have good luck with yours.
Last week I bought 2 wicker look sq planters for 9.99. I am going to spray them white. But like you said, too cold to plant. The only thing blooming here are the forsythias, we are very far behind normal.

  7. Oh I haven't been to an Aldi's in years! Miss it for just this reason. Wonderful treasures at a reasonable price.

  8. I love hydrangeas! They are my favorite flowering shrub. That's a good price - I have to go to Aldi Thursday to do some grocery shopping. I hope mine has them!

  9. Wow, what a great price! I love hydrangeas and the one we planted didn't make it (and it was expensive!) Yours are gorgeous-I'll have to check our Aldi's out!

  10. Love your hydrangeas! I keep planting them and they never come back. I think it is just too dry here in Colorado. Last year I planted one in a wet area by my patio so I'll see if it grows this year.

Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog.

  15. My favorite flowers for sure! Hope they thrive for you. We have a ton of hydrangea bushes, will be so sorry to leave them once we move. Still 32 at night here, was afraid my pansies would suffer last night but they seem to be ok. xoKathleen

  16. I love hydrangeas and I am hoping to find a spot in the new yard to grow a few. We don't have a huge yard at our new place so I will have to see. I have never grown them either so I have to make sure I put them in the right area. I have saved posts and pinned over the fall about hydrangeas.

  20. Hydrangeas are my favorites! I had them in urns on my front porch last year and loved them. I bet they will be huge in no time at all!

  21. Good deal. I bought a pink one at Aldis last year. It sort of struggled. That may be a factor of our heat. I have to really keep it watered. I also am using Osmocote to fertilize this year because of the harsh winter.

  22. Beautiful! I do believe that hydrangeas are my favorite flower. I'd love pots and pots of them on my front porch but my daughter says I already have too much "stuff"! Haha! I'm no minimalist for sure.
