I went in to my booth the Monday after Easter to mark down the prices on some pieces. The end of the month is my last day there. I did take the time to walk around a little bit before I left that day. I found these four Johnson Brothers Friendly Village dishes.
They are not very big and have a bowl shape to them. Edited: They are not soup bowls, they are smaller, about the size of a saucer only bowl shaped. For $20.00 I figured I would bring them home and add to this collection that I seem to find every so often here and there.
Now here’s a question for you. What are they for? My first thought was individual side dishes for vegetables. If you know, I’d really like to find out their actual function.

Love that pattern. I have Johnson Bros Britain Old English Castles pattern and I use that size bowl for salads and soups.
ReplyDeleteHI Kath- hey I think that is technically called a fruit bowl.
ReplyDeleteLet me know if someone says differently!
So you just stopping at the booth because it is getting warm out? Will you be going back come fall?
Kathy,
ReplyDeleteI love the plates you got. I think they are soup bowls actually or they called them stew bowls sometimes. I have a set similar and they are for soup and stews. They are so pretty and love the scene on them.
Kris
If they are small bowls they are probably what they call berry bowls. I love that pattern, but have never been able to find very many pieces. I'm so sorry you are giving up your space. Maybe that particular mall is not a good fit for you. Your projects are so cute. Have you thought of moving somewhere else?
ReplyDeletePossibly berry bowls.
ReplyDeleteDon't know hat they would be used for. But I would use them for soup.
ReplyDeleteRosezeeta.
I love your dishes Kathy! I love the pattern.

Great find. I am looking for these pieces too. i have plates and salad plates. I have no idea what they are but surely you can work with them my friend. Happy Friday, Olive
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern, it is one of my favorites. Great find. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteKathy- They are most likely berry bowls. We used to get these BEFORE a salad when we ate with hubby's very formal grandmother. That is what she called them. Fun find!!! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy, These are Berry Bowls. I have them with one of my Johnson Bros. sets. Pretty Nice find!!
ReplyDeleteHave a Great Week end!!
Huggs, Nancy
Great find! I have that pattern and use it for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I don't have those small bowls in that pattern but I have them in a red transferware pattern and they're fruit bowls.
ReplyDeleteGreat find...I love that pattern!...I agree with some of the above as i believe they are fruit/berry bowls...
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy, Love these bowls and the pattern. You found a great deal. I think this size is for fruit, berries or condiments.
ReplyDeleteHave you sold most of your stock at the mall? Can you add some to Etsy?
Have a great weekend.
Hugs
Great find, Kathy. Like several others said, I think they are berry bowls. I have that size with my Lochs of Scotland transferware. Replacements.com calls them that, anyway. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find Kathy, these are so pretty. I love Johnson Brothers and I want to start a small collection of transferware in the new house. I love it so much. They look like soup bowls to me.
ReplyDeleteCynthia
They are berry bowls!
