Where Bloggers Create ~ 2014

Welcome to the Where Bloggers Create, 2014, linky party and the tour of my craft/sewing room.   The previous years, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 give a bit more detail.

Where Bloggers Create

Not much has changed from last year in my creative space, but the good thing is that I think we tend to forget what the other creative spaces looked like over the course of the year.   A couple of things that have changed are right at the entrance to my room.

SONY DSC

A dress form and magnetic memo board that came home with me when I closed my booth are right outside the door.  While I love the mannequin, I’m not totally thrilled with how tight this area seems with her here.  Unfortunately, there is no place else to put her, so here she stays for the time being.

SONY DSC

Here we are at the door to my space.  As I’ve mentioned previously, this space was designed to be a storage room in our condo.  It is at the end of a long hallway ~ just past the laundry “room”, garage door and dog’s dishes.

SONY DSC

This screen that was given a new life a few years ago serves double duty by holding some of my Etsy items, but also hides the mechanicals.  Behind this screen is the water softener and hot water heater.  These pink aprons hanging off the screen are awaiting some black ruffle trim.

SONY DSC

I’ve cleaned off my table tops again to prepare for this tour.  I do tend to put projects in the process or that I’m contemplating starting on this table.  Since it is not very big it can get out of hand rather quickly.

SONY DSC

I have come to the realization that this two tier basket will never be perfectly neat!  It is always holding some small thing whether it is ribbon, fabric to make into ruffle, small fabric scraps or bits of lace and trim.

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

I utilize just about every square inch of this space since it is quite small.  The shelves are filled and I do have to go through them every so often and try to organize/store things better, make myself use up what I have, or get rid of some things.

SONY DSC

I do like to use clear storage so that I can easily see what is inside, although I have also labeled most of them, too.

SONY DSC

I did paint and paper this wood drawer organizer this year.  I had been wanting to do it for awhile and finally got around to it a few months ago.  I’m loving its new look!

SONY DSC

I did wind up turning my fabric bins on their sides so I could see the fabric at a glance and also reach it a bit easier.  The basket holds my adhesives ~ craft glue, fabric glue, Mod Podge and tape.  The black and white harlequin board you see at the bottom part of the picture is my backdrop for my smaller Etsy items.

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

I also have to make sure I have room to store some Etsy items like pillows, aprons and small home décor pieces.

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

Also new is the button wall décor I did, kind of spur of the moment, last month.  I found unfinished wood buttons online and was able to get two different sizes, which I painted in colors to go with my space.   I hung them on the wall above my sewing machine table.

SONY DSC

The shelf area above my sewing table holds more supplies as well as note cards from bloggy friends.  I like to keep them out where I can see them and read them when the mood strikes.

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

As I’ve said, I try to utilize every inch of the space I have and that includes using the space underneath my sewing table.  I have skirted it with my favorite ~ toile ~ fabric and I keep my batting, fiberfil, any pillow forms I might have, bigger stuff that I want out of sight, underneath and hidden.

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

My yard stick is attached to my sewing table with velcro dots.  It is very convenient here to measure out things as I am sewing and easy to remove when I need to.  Behind the door is probably the only space that I haven’t utilized to its full potential.  I have plans on getting a canvas shoe bag to embellish and think it might do well to hold some other things for me.  It will also not interfere with the door because I generally keep it open.

SONY DSC

This brings us back around to the doorway, above which I have a pretty little chandelier plate clock and another tissue paper flower.

SONY DSC

And just because I took the pictures, here are a few random close up shots from the room.

Well, I hope you enjoyed the tour of my creative space!  Besides just a little bit more room to move around or have for storage, a window would be great, but I am just grateful I have the space at all.  I’m looking forward to seeing everyone else’s spaces, too!

  4. I love your creative space. It is so nice to have everything at hand - makes creating so much easier.

I have the same issue with the two parties. I have both posts ready and will post WBC on Friday. I have to create a post that has links to both parties for people who randomly visit my blog while the two parties are up and running.

Can't wait to see your Mad Tea Party.

  5. Kathy - I think you did a great job making your craft room out of the space you had available. I'm sure it makes it so much easier to be creative when you are organized like that. I am not unfortunately!!

    Great job!

  7. Sometimes its not how pretty it is...it is being able to find what we need when we need it in a project. I love your room! I live in a patio home so my hobby room is quite small. I am repainting it and hope everything is back in by Saturday! Would love to see some of your projects! Hugs, Teresa

  36. Hi Kathy! I'm so impressed by your little studio and how you've made such great use of every inch. You've inspired me to go through my big plastic bin of tangled up fabric and put them out folded nicely where I can see them. And your idea to attach a yardstick to your table with velcro is so smart! I must do that, too. Thanks for the inspiration and for giving us a tour of your creative space.
