Design Book Library ~ Rachel Ashwell

While Rachel Ashwell didn’t invent Shabby Chic, you can’t help but associate her name with it.  I think the book in today’s post was where I first saw white slipcovers and started to wonder if it was actually possible to have them.

Quite frankly, this is not one of my most favorite books.  I didn’t “ooh” and “ahh” over the pictures as I have done with some.  I think it would depend on just how much you like Rachel Ashwell to purchase this book.  Take it out of the library, yes.  Purchase it ~ eh, I wouldn’t buy it again.

I’ve shared some of the pictures that I do actually like from this book, but this is only a small sampling.  These pictures depict some of the favored aspects of Shabby Chic decorating.  Creams, whites and ivories, with a little lace and a romantic look thrown in.

In case you were wondering (since I mentioned it in the last design book library post), next week I think I will start to share some books that I will offer up, giveaway style.  So if you are interested in adding some books to your own design library, be sure to come back then.

  3. I think I have all of RA's books. I liked her style many years ago, mainly when she used florals and pastels. The sort of messy, unkempt look wasn't my style so I have incorporated a bits and pieces from her books but for the most part, have a sort of casual cottage style here.

This is really sweet of you to start having giveaways. I'm up for it!

  4. Hi Kathy, I have this book too and feel the same about the contents.
I think I have every book from RA's collection and while I don't design my home completely this way, I like to incorporate some of the style into my own flair.
    Your giveaway plans sound great.

  5. Hi Kathy,
I love her style so much and love the neutrals and slipcover style. I cannot wait to see what books you will have for your give away. Love to collect decor books. This will be a fun giveaway.

Hope you got your Somerset Homes Magazine. I know Abby and Sara told me they sent it out over a week ago. Hope you got it.

  8. I like your advice to check the library first before purchasing a book. How many times could I have spent my money smarter?! I like Shabby Chic but do not live with it. Mr. C prefers more traditional and I am fine with that. Creative Bliss...

  9. I've taken out so many design books from the library over the past few years! Including some by Rachel Ashwell. When I get on a kick for these books I come home with a bag so heavy I can hardly lift it!

  11. I enjoy many of the aspects of Shabby Chic design, I see her shifting away from her original style. I like to mix it up with a variety of tastes that are pleasing to me. A book giveaway sounds like a real treat!
