The Artist Behind The Etsy ~ Expressive Creations

 button_edited-1

It’s getting a bit difficult to find participants who are interested in being featured in this series (or who don’t drop out at the last minute).  I’m sorry to say that this will probably be the last feature of The Artist Behind The Etsy and I felt it fitting that it should be my own ~ Expressive Creations.

As most of you know from reading my blog, I am married (30 years in May), have two grown children, one grandchild and another on the way.   We moved from Long Island, New York to the Dayton, Ohio area just over three years ago with my husband’s job.  My daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter also moved and live about 10 minutes away from us.  The past year has had my son working and living in Ohio, as well, although he is in the Cincinnati area.  What more could a Mom and Grandma ask for?

French Farmhouse Style Bakery Pillow With Ruffle

Neutral Canvas Crochet Pocket Pillow with Side Ruffle

I started my Etsy shop because I love to make things and had no room for all the things I was making.  I also couldn’t possibly use all the pillows and sewn items I wanted to make so selling them was always in my mind, but how.  My sister had some success selling on Etsy and I finally hit the button on their site to start selling!

Christmas Burlap Sack, Gift Bag, Holiday Decor - OOAK

Nest with Eggs in Whitewashed Peat Pot

I find my creativity and inspiration for the things I make in many ways ~ Pinterest is a great big inspiration board for ideas; sometimes I see things for sale in stores and think “I can make that”; and sometimes they are ideas that actually just pop into my head (usually as I am falling asleep at night!) and then I have to write it down before I forget!

Christmas Stocking Pair ~ Red and White French Document Fabric

Little Girl Silhouette Apron - Pink and Black

In creating my sewn items, I love taking a piece of fabric and crafting it into something whether it is a stocking, a pillow or a bunny rabbit.  I love seeing what that piece of fabric can become.

French Valentine Tea Towel - Silhouette

St. Patricks Day Tea Towel - Clover in Clog

I am always happy to receive feedback (reviews now) on my orders.  It makes my day to read that the items purchased are appreciated and that someone has taken the time to let me know that they like what they ordered.  I also enjoy the emails I receive asking about custom orders.  I’ve worked with several people on special requests and always enjoy making one of a kind items.

Sweet Hearts - Animal Print Trio - Brown

French Wheat Grain Sack Wood Bread Board

I hope you will visit my Etsy shop!  I still enjoy making things to list for sale (four years now) and try to have new and seasonal items listed frequently.

I’d like to thank all the artists who participated in The Artist Behind The Etsy, and everyone who commented and visited their shops.  It is a wonderful boost to our creativity to have someone “favorite” our shop, or “like” an item, or, ultimately, place an order ~ so thank you!

  1. Hi Kathy,
It's a shame that Etsy has changed their criteria for selling. Now the mass producers can take over. Sad.
I love all the beautiful things that you make and I hope that you will continue with your Etsy. I'm thinking of opening mine back up and selling some things that won't sell in my booth.

    Love your pillows.

  3. Hi Kathy, Sure enjoyed seeing you in the Artist Behind the Etsy. Your shop and items offered are amazing and I can say I love the treasures I have from you. Thank you also for having me in your feature last May. I enjoyed the process and meeting new people because you had this series. It is too bad it has come to an end. It seems many venues on line are making changes to the way operations work. Best wishes as you continue to create for your etsy shop. Much success always.
    Have a great week ahead.
    Hugs

  4. That was a great way to end this series! I enjoyed seeing a sample of all the things you've made.

I'm reading a book that mentioned that etsy was founded by 3 guys! I always thought it was a woman (women) that founded it since it's primarily women who sell and buy!

  5. Your creations are so pretty, Kathy!
I so agree about getting a thrill knowing how customers use and enjoy the pieces they buy from us. I've enjoyed your weekly Etsy sellers feature, a big thanks for including me:) And I agree with the others that it's too bad Etsy now allows for mass produced goods. What a shame, as the original intent of Etsy was to showcase those of us that actually MADE things by hand, not people that sell stuff made on an assembly line!

  6. I am sorry to see this feature go away, Kathy - but if it is becoming frustrating then time for moving on.

I am so glad you featured your own etsy shop - as you know I have been a customer of yours more than a few times.

You do beautiful work and I love what you have there now, too.

Stay warm, dry and safe with the snow we're having. Just drove back from Akron and yikes, white knuckles the whole way home, was SCARY!

    Hugs.

  7. Hi Kathy, I can't believe an artist on etsy would elect NOT to be featured on your blog! I have found several artists I've purchased from after reading about them right here. Go figure???
I am not as happy shopping with Etsy as I once was. There is so much mass produced merchandise, I buy on Etsy to get one of a kinds. I don't use Etsy for gifts nearly as much as I once did. I LOVE your etsy shop and your blog. The cream always rises to the top!

  11. Thank you for sharing your beautiful creations! Isn't ETSY a wonderful platform to sell your things? And like Manuela said, I find it interesting that three guys are behind it.
