Whose Got The Time?

Well, apparently I do!  I have enough clocks now to take over for Father Time!

After getting an email from Pier 1 basically warning me that I needed to “Hurry in”, I headed right over there after work last Friday afternoon.  It can never be said that I don’t heed a sale warning!

I looked around a bit and wasn’t really impressed with the clearance prices until I came across this little piece.

Although I liked the design, I thought the gold was a bit much, but for $8.99 on clearance, I knew I could either cover it up or paint over it.  It was a good size and color otherwise.  Plus, it was originally $34.95!  That’s right, $34.95.  Marked down once to $17.98 and then $8.99 {the other sticker was right underneath}.  I thought that was a pretty good deal!

Since time waits for no man {Yes. Yes, I did just say that}, I snapped up one of the last two and bought it!  Now I just need to decide if I want to do something over the gold with paint {to not lose the design} or put scrapbook paper over it.

  1. Great find! I would paint it so you don't lose the pretty detailing.

  2. Love it~! You could use that rub n buff on it. That would allow you to change the gold without loosing the detail. Just a light coat would work I think.. Of course some scrap book paper would give it a while new look and you could take it off later if you changed your mind. Either way its beautiful..

  3. Kathy,
I'd say you got a great buy. I like the ideas from the comments above. I think a pretty scrapbook paper would really change the look of the clock.
    Have a great weekend.

  4. Good deal! I agree with the comments above, you would not want to lose the lovely detail so the rub n buff or a light painting would be perfect. I cannot wait to see what you decide upon.

  5. Oh I love it! You could use a glaze on it or rub n buff and age it with the texture still showing! Or even paint it a creamy color and use a glaze and it would grab the texture and really pop!!

Look at my creative juices flowing here? lol

Anything you do, will be marvelous!

  7. How cute..I would do some dark stain over it and wipe off to dull the gold. Love the design in it.

  8. Wow...I think I would use some of that Pratt & Lambert ‘Opulence Pearl’ paint on the face of the clock. This was the paint that Kate @ CG was using several days ago on her candle sticks...oh so pretty! Great find!

  13. What a good deal you got on that clock! I would just add some glaze over the gold to keep the detail and tone down the gold.

  19. Wow - I love it when I get a bargain like that - and even more you get to change the look to your own liking - can it get any better???

I love the detail on the gold, but agree the shiny colour is a little too much. I notice you love black and white (surprise)! Why not paint the surface white!

  20. What a great find! I never go into Pier 1 and it's around the corner from me but I did finally go in there after Christmas and found some great bargains!

I'm going to go see if they have that clock there!

I would paint the gold part silver . . . and then distress it a bit.

Thank you for visiting me today and becoming a follower! I see we have very similar taste :)
