I think we can all agree that you never know where inspiration is going to come from. This week I was browsing AtticMag and this is what Allison had written about:
Love ‘em! Until I found out that these little candles are $42.00 for the set of three. Mmmm, too much for me {especially for three little candles}. The old brain started grinding. I knew that I could find similar images and make my own.
These images are from Karen at The Graphics Fairy’s other blog ~ The Background Fairy. These are blog banners!
I only found the two, so I printed one of the blue bird banners in mirror image, so it would look a little different with the bird on the opposite side. I found a set of alphabet stickers that I had and they had little tiny stickers within it. I found one little crown sticker. I put that on one of the birds.
They were a little too big for regular votive candles and I didn’t want to cut away too much of the image. That meant a trip to the dollar store to get the small size prayer candles.
I put these together the same way I did my other ones here. Just to go over it quickly, here is what you need.
I find it easier to do this with the candles on their side. I put some Mod Podge on the paper and then on the candle and roll it.
If you do one mirror image, like I did, make sure you turn your candle otherwise the image will be the wrong way on the candle. I’ll need to trim up a little bit of the paper once they dry.
Here’s my version {still drying}. I think I will look for a couple of crown stickers, like the one I used on the one graphic, and add them to the other two candles.
Not bad ~ three candles for $3.00!

What an awesome idea Kathy, I love it! I would never have thought to use those banners as a candle wrap but it works perfectly and so pretty! I could even see this used by someone that makes their own candles to sell, they could print their company name and the candle scent in the center of the label.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I love the little crown too! Thanks so much for linking this one up today for "Brag Monday".
Karen

Wow, those look great. What an inspiration that is to see you turn those plain candles into something that lovely.
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous! You have the best ideas!
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous! I'm thinking of all my scrapbook paper that could be cut and applied to glass votive candles like this. I just made something similar today, using upholstery webbing glued around the glass. You have inspired me!
ReplyDeleteI like YOURS BETTER!

Very cool! Hers sort of matched the bird theme in PB this spring, but I agree with many others...I like your vintage banner ones better! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love that Kathy!!! What a fun project.
ReplyDelete{I just realized that you aren't on my sidebar since my blog redo, so I put you back on. I lost all of my widgets and blogs so it's taking me a while to rebuild everything..}

Kathy, I love how your brain works! You have more creativity and imagination than most anyone I know, I always love seeing what you are working on and need to spend more time on others blogs like yours. :)
ReplyDeleteLove it! it's so funny, I just took some photos to post of some votives I recovered. I love the smell of candles, but hate to see the label on the jar. My husband thinks I'm nuts.
ReplyDeleteBlessings...Sherry
Kathy, that is wonderful! I love those birdie candles, and the price is unbelievable. Way to go! Linda
ReplyDeleteYes, better than the ones that inspired you! To respond to your sister's comment (right?), we have the prayer candles here in Portland, OR at many grocery stores, especially ones that serve a Latino/a population. Also in odd little discount stores like BiMart, etc. You do have to peel the holy pictures off. Hope you find some. Kate
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy, your candles turned out great! What a great way to dress them up. I'm really into birds right now, especially since spring is almost here. Thank you for your sweet comments on my blog today! Kristen
ReplyDeleteOh yes, you asked about the bunny...I ordered him at Dallas market in January. The name of the company is Fantastic Crafts. They might have an online store. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLove this scathingly brilliant idea~! and I'll just go ahead and admit I intend to be a serious copycat.. I'll be sure to link back here for folks to see yours when I do mine..
ReplyDeleteI truly adore this idea.
thanks for visiting me and leaving such kind comments.

This idea is great...I actually prefer the birdies on your candles opposed to the $40 ones...they are just too sweet! I can see these with maybe a few little sparkly jewels glued on the outside too! Great job!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Grace
Bravo! Great job, Kathy!
ReplyDeleteYour versions are just as nice as the "over-priced" ones! And, I so prefer the price of yours! ;)
Goes to show, where there's a will...and creativity...there's a way!
