Finally. I got to Good Will this Saturday and while they didn’t have a lot going on, I did manage to spend $27.08. I don’t know about the Good Will’s by you, but some of their prices are looking a bit high on some things. High enough that I would just go to Target or Home Goods and buy it new! So I passed over a few things, but did find these.
I don’t even know what this first item is ~ a wine bottle caddy maybe? For $2.99 it didn’t really matter. Here’s what I saw in my mind when I picked it up ~ Heirloom White spray paint and either two pots of flowers or two bottles with some cut flowers. Maybe a pretty little sign attached to it, too. I think this would work nicely in my gazebo or a bench I have on my patio.
Yes, this is a Christmas box, also $2.99. When I first picked it up I thought about painting and decoupaging over it. As I looked at it a little more, though, I was starting to like it just as it is. I guess sometimes you don’t have to redo everything you pick up at Good Will! This box is wood and has a snowman on the front and the back. This could be for a floral arrangement, hold Christmas cards, children’s holiday books ~ I think this could turn out to be a versatile piece even if it is geared toward Christmas.
After my disastrous attempt to make my own topiary and moss ball this past week {well, they’re not really that bad ~ post coming soon}, I found this one {$2.99}. It looks like it was meant to have a base of some kind, but it works just fine for me. I may just paint the pot a fresher white.
I’ve already put it over by my kitchen sink.
This box {that looks like it is brand new from Target} and which is actually a jewelry box, will be getting a little make-over as far as the “love” will be coming off and I’ll put something else in its place. Also the ring holder in the one drawer I took out already. I thought this would work well for some little embellishments and any other little doodads I pick up for projects. This was probably the most expensive single item I bought at $4.99.
These earrings I really liked and they were $2.99 a pair. I’ve been looking for pretty buttons and old jewelry to have on hand as embellishments and thought these would be good to add to the jar I’ve been filling.
Finally, this little china tea set, which just screamed “Cute” to me, at $3.99. Not a crack or chip in any of the pieces, which is amazing when you consider that it was stored on the shelf in a cool whip container with no lid or paper around the pieces. I’ve already washed this up and will put it away until some future date, to be used with a little someone, who will be making their appearance this Summer!
All in all, I think I got a nice haul! I like when I can find a variety of things like this.

You got some great stuff Kathy!! And it all has huge potential! :) That tea set is very sweet. Looks like they are solid white....hmmm, rub on with fleur de lis's might me nice. Have fun with it all and we look forward to seeing how you can transform it all!
ReplyDeleteYou really got some great things at GW. I agree, their prices seem to be going up. Do they know about all of us in Blogland? Linda
ReplyDeleteNice haul! I love the topiary tree. I don't think I'd even dare try to make one myself.
ReplyDeleteKathy, I just recently found your blog and I must say I love it. As for the Goodwill, there's a big one close enough for me to walk to and poke around. However, I agree with you about the pricing on a lot of their things. Sometimes I tell myself that it's just that I'm getting old and everything seems over-priced, but other times I wonder what's up. Another customer recently told me that GW is less about charity and more about profit these days, and it seems true to me. I now look for tags with the "half-off color" for the week, but having to look for half-off at a thrift store bugs me! (Back to painting my Dollar store bird--the one we all have--to put on a tired-looking lavender wreath on my front door.) Cheers from rainy Oregon, Kate
ReplyDeleteI think you did great! :) The topiary is so cute. I smiled when I read the part about not having to redo everything from GW. Our GW is really pricey too. Thanks for the visit!
ReplyDeleteVery nice finds, Kathy! I esp. love the white pieces, those are gonna be great. Thanks for linking up!
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy. I think you found some great treasures over at Goodwill! I don't usually find anything as pretty at the Goodwill in my area. Have a great evening.
ReplyDeleteSandra
Looks like you had a good day at GW. As far as their prices go I would have to agree that the prices seem higher now. I also have found that my GW store always seems pretty bare. I have much better luck at other thrift stores in my area. Not a lot of thrifting time for me this weekend. Time to hit them on my lunch hour.
ReplyDeleteJane
You scored!!! I really like the wine caddy and love box!! We went to a couple of garage sales today but I didn't spot anything (got there too late). I agree, the Discovery Shop here is pricing their things a bit high too.

Great finds Kathy! Our Goodwill stores are getting a bit pricey too. When possible I shop at our Salvation Army thrift store, much much cheaper.

Kathy,
ReplyDeleteI just love that we've turned you into a thrifter!
Looks like you found some great items!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog! I agree - the GW is getting kind of pricey!!
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteGood stuff. I can just see some fleurs on that tea set!!
Our GW here has been increasing prices too. Seems the worse the economy gets, the higher the prices go.
hugs
Sissie
Cute stuff. My GW has gotten expensive too. I've even seen them price things more than the sticker on the bottom. Guess I'll just have to stick to shopping yard sales where you can find real deals.
ReplyDeleteNice finds and yes I agree with you - Goodwill can be high on some of their prices.
ReplyDeleteKathy,
ReplyDeleteWhat great finds! The wine bottle caddy would be wonderful with plants and you could train ivy up and over the handle. The box is so useful. I found one just like it, re-painted it and use it to hold rolled-up hand towels in the guest bath.
I love goodwill too. Thanks for stoping by.
as we say in the South,, Girl, you made a real haul this time... Those are some great new treasures.. Good for you~!
ReplyDeleteSonny
Nice finds! And you are right, sometimes we have to remind ourselves that not everything needs to be painted ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat little China set will be so nice for the tea parties!
Hi Kathy!
ReplyDeleteNice finds! You always find great items. I've been a few times to our local Good Will and have had no success. I really like the topiary tree...so cute! Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful week! ~Liz
That wine holder and the topiary are my favorites. :) Kathy, I'm having a party on my blog this Wednesday called "Work Your Wallet" and I'd love it if you would consider linking up to show off your finds!
ReplyDeleteI love the topiary! I've sort of fallen in love with topiaries...never would have believed it a year ago.;)
ReplyDeleteABout GW's pricing...the closest one to me is over an hour away so I hadn't been in a while. When I had gone before, I always found great deals. This last time, I walked in, saw awesome stuff and got very excited...until I saw the prices! Then I knew why the shelves were so full...$1.51 for the candle holders we are all getting at Dollar Tree a $1!!!!! It got worse from there...so I walked out without buying a thing!! :(
Hey, great finds! Really like the topiary. :) Nice to visit you here!
ReplyDeleteHopping over from the Thrifty Treasures party and you're so right about the GW prices! I recently did a hop between Sally Anne's & the GW and wow, what a difference. Some of their prices were just ridiculous. :(
ReplyDeleteGreat finds-- I like that little tea set all in white!!
ReplyDeleteYou found some cute things! I totally agree about the high prices, but it all depends on the Goodwill you go to. Some are very reasonable, others are insane. It always makes me mad when I see stuff that is more expensive than something you could buy new at Target or WalMart. It also drives me crazy when they pretend they are antique dealers and anything old HAS to be worth a lot, so they jack up the price.
ReplyDeleteLove the tea party set!
ReplyDeleteI love those earrings! And the tea set. Lets have tea and wear the earrings! LOL! Great finds!
ReplyDeleteI do like to shop at Goodwill but the ones here in my town are outrageously high priced.
ReplyDeleteJust can't seem to justify spending my money there. It seems to be all about profit to them. I read about others good finds and great prices and make me a bit envious. lol
Geri
Very nice finds Kathy! I always like finding topiaries since you can use them anywhere anytime. I agree about Goodwill, I've passed on a lot of things lately because the prices were too high (especially the painting/prints section). I used to always find really nice prints to use now I might as well go to TJ Maxx and buy one!
ReplyDeleteManuela
You did good!! Love the topiary! Goodwill here has gotten SO much higher with their prices! It makes me so frustrated!! I think they are cashing in on us "thrifty" shoppers!!
ReplyDeleteDon't make me walk a picket line! lol
Have a great week!
Lou Cinda :)
You found some really great things! I really like the adorable tea set and the topiary! I agree with you though...our GW prices seem to be a but high these days as well.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. Goodwill can be pricey. I might as well go to Target.
ReplyDeleteSome great finds. I too was out and got some amazing deals on Saturday. As you mentioned, I find the Goodwill where I am from is MUCH higher priced items than if I go to two other different places. The best place I love is called Redeemed Goods. Most of their clothing are for one dollar. Down the street at another shop I go too, I will have to pay two to three dollars more for the same thing.
ReplyDeleteI was so itching to go Yard Sales but they are not happening yet in our parts in Ontario Canada, not only May,,so the next best thing was the thrift store..it did my heart good!
Hey Kathy! Thanks for visiting my blog and for your sweet comments! I truly appreciate it...looks like you got some great things! Isn't it the best feeling?? -shaunna :)
ReplyDeleteLuv that cute topiary...I agree about GW...mine are good, but I went in one last month in Birmingham that was the pits!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda
I love Good Will stores! You came away with some great finds!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for popping by my Blog for a visit. I appreciate it so much!
Warmly,
LuLu Kellogg
Yes a very sweet haul you made. I love the little tea set too. God Bless your little someone that you are going to share it with! Smiles, Marla
ReplyDeleteI love the wine caddy...I would spray it black!!
ReplyDeleteI really like all of your Goodwill finds. I agree, the prices are getting a little too high at quite a few thrift stores. The tea set you picked up is a great find, I really love it!
ReplyDeleteGreat job!!! I LOVE GW! My daughter loves playing w/ her tea set. You'll have great memories with that!
ReplyDeleteLove the tea set! That was indeed a fantastic find! I like the idea you have for the wine bottle caddy. I have a single one sitting up on a storage shelf somewhere and may steal your idea!
ReplyDelete~ Tracy
I love the china! Yes, GW gets on my nerves sometimes with their prices. When I see something outrageously priced, I'm always like, "ARE THEY CRAZY???". Anyway.. the GW stores around here buy in bulk from Target. I guess whatever Target doesn't sell, they buy the lot. That's why you'll see a lot of new Target stuff there.
