The Allegria Hotel

I recently had the opportunity to stay at The Allegria Hotel in Long Beach {New York} recently.  While I didn’t take a whole bunch of pictures I thought I’d share a few of what I did take.  These are decorative and design elements that really grabbed my attention.

This bed(?)/couch was in the lobby.  Is this not fabulous?   Obviously, not something that would work in a suburban home, but what about in a loft or in a climate where you live outside 24/7.

I loved these pieces in the picture below.  Is it lighting or is it art?  Decorative and functional!  This looked great at night, by the way.

I’m loving that this is modern design but you’ve got texture and shape here; not something I typically think of in modern design.  I’m more  inclined to think of straight lines, smooth surfaces, limited “clutter”, when I think of modern.

IMG_7494_4028This is the lighting in the ballroom!  I loved it and, especially after my most recent post on lighting, these really caught my eye.  Beautiful!  I love the drum shade with the crystals.  I think it evoked the modern yet traditional feel that a ballroom is supposed to have, but was in keeping with the design of the hotel.   I also like that there are different sizes in the lighting fixtures.

The Allegria Hotel is of modern design with lots of glass and straight lines.  {Here is the website, http://www.allegriahotel.com .   It seems the website has been down, so I won’t put it in as a clickable link}

IMG_7498_4032 I don’t want to turn this into a review, but I did find the decor pleasing {and I’m not a modern person}, the room was clean and well set-up.  The best thing I think hubby and I both liked was that there was no carpet.  No carpet!  I’m sure it was laminate flooring {I didn’t get down on the floor to check}, but the entrance and bathroom area looked like a tile and the bedroom area was a wood floor laminate.  Very nice!  I like that ~ especially with the apparent resurgence of the bugs that shall not be named. {I credit that line to Beth from The Stories of A to Z, although I like a good Harry Potter reference myself}.

Have you ever stayed in a hotel that had a different decorating style then your own, and you wound up really liking it?

  3. I think I either need to get out of my own bedroom more or perhaps spend some extra money to stay in a place that it actually decent. :)

I love all design. Seriously. Now while I do have more French antiques than anything else I appreciate modern which is in my daughters apaprtment.

  5. I love this! So unique...and if I could, I would probably try to fit that couch/daybed thing either on my sunporch or my den! Looks like the perfect place to read a book. Loved the picture of the ceiling as well. Thanks for the eye candy and inspiration!

  6. You have such a great eye for style...so many things I wouldn't have noticed {well, the chair is a little obvious!!}.

I'm not much for modern myself, but I love seeing it in other homes. The lack of clutter that I dream of! lol! We stayed at the hotel W in downtown Chicago once and although I didn't care for the modern look of it, it grew on me.

  8. Hi Kathy! This is unique! I've never stayed somewhere like this but it's lovely! I can just hear the wheels of the luggage rolling across those floors! :)
Thanks for popping in to see me.
    Be a sweetie,

  9. Nice, Kathy! I would love to see those lights/art pieces lit at night. Bet they are gorgeous.

We stayed at the Palms Hotel and Spa in Miami last year and it was fabulous.

I still think about it from time-to-time. I LOVED the decor inside and outside of that hotel. Hight recommend it if anyone's going to Miami!

  10. I'm with you- I'm not a modern design person but this hotel managed to make modern feel a little different than what I usually consider modern to be! I am also a huge fan of the no carpet in the rooms. I itch just thinking about what could be in the carpets. Yuck!

  11. I'm not a super contemporary person, however I do find all of these pics interesting and love all the different textures. I could live with some of these elements.
Thanks also for your suggestion to put all the fabric away and look at it later. Great idea. I love a mix of fabric, just always hard to find the right mix. Always a fun challenge. Hope you have a super day. Hugs, Marty

  12. The big chair makes me think of a movie reel :-)

We stayed at a B&B in PEI once in a great room that was painted orange. I tried to replicate the look in our bedroom, but it was a total flop!!
