Chair Slips

I dropped into the Salvation Army recently hoping they might have a small two or three shelf bookcase that I could use in my craft/sewing room.  No luck on that front, but I did find these white tablecloths.

In excellent condition with no stains {although I did wash and bleach them once I got home anyway}, and they were only $1.99 a piece.  I thought they might make for good slips for our dining chair seats.  They look like the kind of white tablecloths that may have been used in a restaurant at one time.

The seat fabric that was on the chairs doesn’t really work in our new place.  It worked great in my old house because I had these colors in a couple of patterns in my kitchen.  I removed the fabric on the seats anyway because they were showing through the white.  I found that I had left the original fabric the chairs came with.

And, you know what? It’s not half bad! It kind of appeals to me with this color scheme I have going on now.  I put a slip on and the fabric didn’t show through, so I didn’t have to staple another fabric on.

In fact, I’m thinking of using the original Buffalo Check fabric as a Fall/Winter look and the slips for Spring/Summer just to mix things up a bit.  What do you think?

Here are some inspiration pictures I found {these are all on my Pinterest board and you can see the sources here}.

I know this one above is from Courtney at French Country Cottage because I pinned this one as soon as she posted about it!

I think I’m going to leave them as is without chair ties.  They seem to be staying put just fine when sat on.

Not bad for a couple of afternoons’ worth of sewing and $3.98 worth of fabric!

A few “glam” shots.  We don’t use a tablecloth on an everyday basis, but I had to see how it would look with my ruffled tablecloth, too.  Prepare for pictures ad nauseum!

I’m very happy with the way they turned out!  I love that they are washable, so no worries if anything gets dropped on them.  I can just whip them off, throw them in the wash with a bit of bleach, and they will be good to go again!
