Nature Inspired

I had this frame sitting off to the side in my craft/sewing room, not sure what I was going to do with it.  You may recall I used it on this project about a year ago.

I never really took to it and I have no place to hang it in the new place anyway, so I took out the stenciled piece and decided to use the frame for this project.  I’m sure you’ve seen frames being used instead of wreaths in a variety of ways.

I wanted something for our front door but I find I can’t get into wreaths as much as I used to.  I thought maybe something like this would give me a unique look.   I found these images on Google Images.

So I pulled out some sheet moss {which I actually had more of than I thought I did} and was able to do the whole frame with what I had on hand.   You will need plenty of glue sticks and make sure you put something down wherever you decide to do a moss project.  It’s pretty messy! 

I used this towel and sat on the floor in my craft/sewing room.   Just make sure you use sheet moss ~ you will find it a lot easier and faster to cover, plus you won’t burn your fingers.  I was very proud of myself for not walking away with third degree burns from this project.  I started fitting sheets and cutting to cover the front and outer edge of the frame.  Here it is about halfway done.

I filled in spots here and there when I got it mostly all covered. 

Now to decorate it.  In the bottom left corner I hot glued a nest and eggs that I had gotten from Target a few years ago {great package of eggs and nests, too.   These are the eggs I used under my mini cloches in my master bedroom here}. 

I had some coupons for Joann’s and picked up some burlap garland {because they didn’t have burlap ribbon} and some flowers.   The purple/lavendar colors were calling to me, so that was what I decided to use. I pulled the hydrangea head off the stem and just tucked it in to the moss.

The other flowers I hot glued in place.  I cut the burlap garland to make it a thinner piece because it was just too wide to make into a bow for this frame.  I made my bow at the top but felt it needed something.

I dug through some stuff and found this antique gold looking frame from the Michael’s dollar bin that I had.  The color worked great with the burlap.  I printed up “Our Nest” onto some script scrapbook paper and stuck that in the frame, removing the little easel portion from the back.  I then hot glued that to the middle of the bow.

Let’s see how it looks on the front door.  I added a few more bits of burlap in various spots to just fill it in a little bit. 

I used a command hook {they have such a variety now} and just hung it from the sawtooth hanger already attached to the frame. 

I love that it is different and has a nature inspired look to it!
