Always late to the current trend party. That’s me. I don’t normally jump on a decorating bandwagon unless it’s something I think will actually work for my home. Mirrors made from ceiling medallions are one of those things. I had seen them throughout blogland for the past couple of years, but never had a desire for one. Until now.
I wanted something over our bed after removing the fern prints that were there once I put the bed crown up. Seeing as ceiling medallions come in a few different sizes, I thought one might work for this spot with a mirror inserted in the middle. I saw these Suzanne Kasler sunburst mirrors {above} at Ballard’s.
I also saw this one on the Country Living website. Basically, a ceiling medallion turned mirror can be a sunburst mirror. Google “sunburst mirrors” and you get a wide variety of shapes and materials that make up these mirrors. I got this 16” ceiling medallion at Lowe’s. It was this or a white one and I would have had to paint the white one.
I thought this one went better with the bed crown and these drapery holdbacks I just got.
I’ve seen where the mirror is mounted to the back or the front and I decided to mount it to the front. I got a 5 inch round mirror at Michaels. I hot glued the mirror in place.
I then hot glued a large paperclip to the back for the hanger. I have done this before on the plates I have hanging on the wall in my living room and they have held up well for about three years now. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that holds true for this project, too!
Here it is in place!
Cost: about $17.00. What do you think? I’m not sure yet, but I’ll live with it for a bit and see.

ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful Kathy!!...Never had tried the paper clip thing...sounds like a great idea....I have been using the command strips lately for lighter things...no holes in the walls...a good thing :)
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom is looking gorgeous!!!
Hi Kathy! Great job on the mirror. I think it looks great with that gorgeous bed crown!!

Kathy, you are just one creative lady, aren't you?! Love this mirror and I never would have thought about doing something like this! I might like to see the mirror just a tiny bit lower so it complements the crown, but doesn't appear to be part of it. Just my opinion. Whatever you do, don't lose it as part of your bed suite! It's too pretty and fits right in with the look of your gorgeous bed!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! And clever too. It's all a beautiful combination.
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful! And certainly in my price range. I don't have a sun burst mirror but have always liked the way they look.
ReplyDeleteThat is just too cute. I guess I'm even later to the trend party, because I hadn't seen those either.
ReplyDeleteWow! I love your crown, so classic and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGreat mirrors and love the one at the bed.
ReplyDeleteLooks great, Kathy! I've seen mirrors made from chargers, but you have to have the right size mirror to make that work. I think the ceiling medallion idea is a great one! And aren't those medallions very lightweight? That would be an added bonus!
ReplyDeleteKathy, I love the medallion mirror! I actually like it better than the ones that you featured as your inspiration. I think it looks perfect over the bed. ~ Jamie
