My son is due back for a visit for Thanksgiving and this is just the push I need to pay some attention to the guest bathroom. This bathroom vanity has two doors, no drawers.
I read Marty’s post about how she used organizers to better utilize this space in her bathroom. And really, it does wind up being under-utilized because the height is there, but how do you take advantage of it? Ours was not in bad shape, it just had no organization to it and, since this is the bathroom my son uses when he visits, I thought it would be nice to get it neat, functional and organized.
That’s how it looked before. While out one day, I was by Target and decided to pop in and get some drawer organizers.
I wasn’t able to use all three large drawer pieces under the sink {pipes}, but I was able to fit two. The other one found its way into the linen closet. I put all my son’s stuff in one drawer. In another drawer I put some of the granddaughter’s things. On occasion she sleeps over and I have her bath things and a toothbrush. I labeled these drawers.
The other drawers came in handy for the hundreds of hotel bottles and soaps my husband brings home from his business trips. I labeled that drawer “Guest Services”. “Drugstore” is band-aids and medical related needs.
I think this better utilizes this space and organizes it better, too. All that height was going to waste! Thanks to Marty for getting me moving on this!
I NEED to do this! I'm in process of painting my vanities, now would be the time to get organized. Thanks for posting this great tip!
ReplyDeleteLooks so nice and tidy. Good job!

Great idea. Too bad we didn't live closer, I have LOTS of those type of drawers which I am slowly getting rid of as I accumulate other types of drawers like the metal one I got this weekend at the flea!!!

this looks like its working great~!
ReplyDeleteI MUST copy you and marty.. I finally got my pedestal sink taken out and a cabinet like yours put in.
its so much better already for storage but those plastic containers would make it even better.
thanks for the visual nudge for me to write it down so I dont forget them on my next trip out.
so glad your son is getting to come for another visit. I know that makes your heart SMILE.
:) I just did the same thing Kathy..my Mom and sis are coming. I did not use those organization drawers though. Looks good.
ReplyDeleteLooks great Kathy! I'm going to get some of those storage containers for my oldests bathroom.
ReplyDeleteIt looks totally amazing and how nice to have things where you can find them. Love the drawers you are using. Great job. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I just realized I am not sure what is in our vanity doors at our new home! I will have to check the next time we go over. The hardwood floors are being laid today!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, Kathy! Your post is really motivational. I read Marty's post and intended on doing a little organizing and then forgot about it. I agree, its that upper space that gets wasted. I have to get moving on it!

Jane
Let's hope the weather cooperates for him on this next trip. ;)

I seriously need to do something like this in my master bathroom. What a difference organization makes. Great job.
ReplyDeleteThis post reminded me of when we were building a home and I insisted that we have drawers in the half bath--you would've thought I'd asked for gold faucets, LOL. I would've had the same challenges you were facing--and at the time all the organizing stuff wasn't as readily available. I'm sure you're going to love this new arrangement even more when he's actually here to use it! Enjoy your visit with him! ~Zuni
ReplyDeleteI have the same vanity..Did the same thing..no labels though :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea Kathy! I have the same type of cabinet in our guest bath and I am going to use your idea.
ReplyDeleteThanks to Marty too.
hugs

ReplyDelete*gasp*! I'm so inspired! Why did it never dawn on me to do this under my bathroom sink! My husband travels a lot and we have a thousand and one conditioners and shampoos that overflow in the baskets under there. I'm getting some of these drawer organizers PRONTO!! TY!!
ReplyDeleteGood idea Kathy! I need a new bathroom vanity. I want to find an old dresser and have hubby make the vanity out of it. Just have to fine the right piece!

I'm guilty of not having an organized bathroom sink area and surely I should be better at my homekeeping. It's not like we have kids at home making messes :) Love the organizers and I need to do this also.
