I decided to use some of the damask burlap I found at Joann’s for a memo board.
This “board” really was a board! A chess/checkers board, but the insert cracked. Thankfully, my husband tossed the insert, but left the frame of the board in the garage for me to see and grab. The insert area was a perfect fit for the fabric covered foam board.
It was just a natural wood piece and I painted it with Old White chalk paint. I covered a piece of foam board, that I cut to size, with the burlap and used a sheer ribbon with it.
A French styled charm I had received in a swap made for a nice finishing touch in the middle.
Saved from the trash and given a new life!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful memo board, Kathy. I love the damask burlap and the wonderful French charm. It's so fun to rescue things and breath new life into them.
ReplyDeleteGreat save, I love it! regarding the gilding, I wanted a light almost sheer cover, but I just don't think that is possible with the rub and buff. I was a little disappointed, let me know if you find anything out there that gives a sheer gild, I wonder if the new annie sloan stuff does?

Kathy, There should be a new category of upcycling for the elegant things you create. I do not look at items to be cast aside in the same light anymore. I now say, "What would Kathy do with this!"
ReplyDeleteHave a great week. Elizabeth
