Table Skirts For The Master Bedroom

SONY DSC

Thanks to a post by Vanessa from At The Picket Fence, I found a way to change up the look of the side tables in our master bedroom without having to employ paint.  Doubly exciting ~ I don’t even need to use my sewing machine!  Vanessa whipped up this great table skirt using drop cloth and some trim {glued on with fabric glue}.

All I needed was the drop cloth and one more glass round for the top.  Here are the side tables in question.

I like them, but I’m looking for a change.  I got these tables from Bombay {when they were still around} at one of their $49.00 table sales.   The table skirts will help hide those cords, too!

I got the drop cloth from Lowe’s and washed it ~ twice to soften it up and preshrink it.  I got the trim from Hobby Lobby using my 40% off coupon.  I had an old table skirt up in the attic and used that to measure for size, although it was a bit bigger and I tried to take that into account when I was cutting.  I just laid it on top of the drop cloth and used it as a template.

Once that was done, I used hot glue to glue the trim on all around the hem.

Only one table is truly finished since I need to get another round glass top, but you can get an idea of how it looks.

The glass top will also make it easier to clean these table tops.

Love the new look and love that it cost me very little to make this change!

  1. Good Afternoon Kathy, Sorry I have not been around for a while but I have been on holiday to India. I am back home now and looking forward to catching up with your blog.
I love your round tables.....this is exactly what I have next to my bed and you are so right, having the glass top makes dusting so easy.
I love the addition of the fringe and what a fabulous idea, to glue the fringe and not sew.
    Have a lovely day.
    Best Wishes

  3. This turned out wonderful! It must have really helped to have an older round table cloth to use as a template. I just realized that I have a round table cloth and I could make something like this for my round dining table! Thanks for the inspiration!! Love the fringe!

  7. I just finished sewing a table skirt for one of my wooden tables, too. I love that you can still use the table without the skirt if you change your mind.

  8. Don't you love dropcloths! I use them for all sorts of things.

I've used one for our dining room table tablecloth for awhile now! Couldn't find one just the right color and when I saw the dropcloth, I thought, that is IT!!!!

  13. Honestly, I think they are too long. Gives a messy feel with too much of a puddle. But great try and good idea!

  14. And this is why "trolls" should stay living under their bridges. Their interaction with human beings is socially awkward.

  17. Not at all; I appreciate all comments and opinions, not outright slamming. What you are doing is trolling. Please do not leave a comment on my blog again or I will report you to Blogger.

  26. Hi, Kathy! What a beautiful idea! Your table looks so pretty! Somebody left me a comment a while back telling me little round tables and skirts were very out of fashion and I needed to get rid of them, but I still love them and I actually have several of them in my home. I love the trim you chose and I love fabric glue, hem tape or anything that will make my life a little easier. :) You did a fabulous job and it made your bedroom so elegant and dressed up! Very pretty!

  31. Oh, I think it is perfect!! I love the fringe and we all adore drop cloths for everything. You mentioned that to sell something you have to spray ....With what...For what? Now that would me an interesting blog post. That would put a serious damper on so many of us that sell!

  33. The table skirt made such a difference in the decor. It's very pretty. I've draped sheets over small tables like this, but have never added trim like you did. That little bit if detail really makes the cover look finished. Have a great weekend!
