Wine Bottle Christmas Gift Bags

 SONY DSC

I worked on a quick and easy project this week.  I thought this might make for a great gift idea and, if you are making gifts, there is no time like the present to get started!  This project uses images I originally saw on Pinterest but are offered by MagicPug on Etsy, where I purchased them.  Love these and they can actually go right on a wine bottle, but I chose to do them on a gift bag.

Antique Christmas Potion Wine Labels 4.25 x 3.25 digital collage sheet decorations for your holiday dinner parties

I printed the labels onto transfer paper {in mirror image} and ironed the images onto some Osnaberg fabric that I cut a little bigger than the labels themselves.  Osnaberg tends to fray and I thought that would be a nice look on the fabric bag.

I used some Christmas fabric I had from last year, as well as a bottle of wine for measuring.  I cut my fabric on the fold {the fold is the bottom} cutting it 7 inches wide and 14 inches long.  I folded over the top to the wrong side about an inch on both ends and sewed them down.

I positioned the label on the front at this point with a couple of pins just to get placement.  Put the wine in between to see if I liked where it sat and then sewed the label on, sewing between the edge of the fabric label and the image.  This will allow me to fray the fabric a bit and it will stop at the sewn line.

Then with right sides together I sewed up both sides {you can iron your bag at this point if needed}, turn right side out and insert your bottle of wine or spirits.  I also did a couple by cutting my fabric tag with my Pinking shears.

To give it a tie, I took some of the corks I’ve been saving and, using ring and nail kits that I bought at the craft store {in the jewelry section}, I attached them to the corks.  I used two corks for each of these.

Then use string, twine, ribbon, whatever you want, tie and knot it to the little ring part that sticks out of the corks.  Tie around the neck of your bottle and it’s done!

This gift bag makes the perfect addition to the gift of a bottle of wine or whatever spirits you might be giving.  It also makes for a nice seasonal decoration if you have a bottle of your own wine sitting on your table, buffet or sideboard.

I pulled out some of our wine bottles we had here to model the bags for you.

I’ll be making some of these for the Dickens Festival gift shop, as well as my booth and Etsy this year!
