They certainly love their Flowering Pear trees here in Ohio! I love them, too, having had two of them in our backyard on Long Island. They are just all over the place here, though. I’ve never seen them used so much and I’ve been wanting to get some pictures every year, but haven’t been able to get to it before the blooms are gone. This year, I got them.
The picture above is by me in our condo community. A lot of times they are planted so that they give the effect of an allee (French). For those of you who don’t know, an allee is where the same variety of plants, bushes or trees are planted in an alley type fashion along a walkway. You get that effect when traveling down many of the streets in our community here. This one is on a street that I take to/from my daughter’s house.
Here is another street in the same community.
This picture is from the shopping center down the road. I don’t know if you can see them clearly (the trees closest to the buildings in the picture), but they are planted all along the main “road” of the shopping center.
I didn’t get a picture, but they are even on the busy main street where I work. It certainly is quite striking to see all these flowering trees in a row like this and drive down the center of them.
I took these pictures the other day when we made a trip to our favorite nursery, Grandma’s Garden. I took some pictures of my granddaughter while we were there and I also saw this pretty girl was still hanging around. She’s about 15 inches tall.
I have seen her on the last few trips there ~ broken and with no price tag. It appears she is supposed to be holding a bird but the bird is broken off. I finally decided to find an associate and ask how much she would be.
They gave her to me at 50% off ($19.99) and so I was very happy to take her home for $20.00 plus tax. She has found a spot right in a bed in the front of our condo and, once the flowers start to bloom here, I’m sure she will look darling.
The flowering pear trees are beautiful. They are all over here in NC too. They call them Bradford Pear trees here.
ReplyDeleteYour statue is charming.
I love flowering pear trees...we have four of them in our yard. They look so beautiful the way they were planted in your neighborhood!! Loved that second photo!
ReplyDeleteI love flowering pear trees too; they are quite lovely in Spring! You have some great shots of them. The garden statue is so cute and a great buy! She is the perfect addition to your garden! Looks like Spring has arrived in Ohio!
ReplyDeleteDont' you wish that the blooms would last much longer? Ours have bloomed and been gone for a few weeks, now. Our azaleas and dogwood are out and the wisteria is finished...waaah!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your blooms while they last and your new statue...it's very sweet!
Love all those flowering pear trees and your statue is charming.

Hi Kathy, we have the Bradford Pear trees or Ornamental Pear trees too all over the place. They are gorgeous when they bloom and shed like falling snow.
ReplyDeleteYour street and town is so charming.
Love your sweet little girl statue. Great price too.
Hugs, CM

Hi, Kathy. Yes, we can complain all we want about Ohio weather, BUT the spring is absolutely gorgeous here! I am blessed to drive along the river for many miles, and the road on both sides is filled with redbuds...oh, my, what a view!! They always remind me of purple trim that we would put on a dress or other dainty article. Thanks for sharing the pears...I love those too! Happy spring in Ohio! :) ~Zuni
ReplyDeleteI've always loved those trees, too! Absolutely stunning in the spring. We, too, have an "allee" that goes down our street, beginning with our front yard (we live on a corner). Thanks for the French lesson!

We lost 2 of ours when Sandy hit. The Costco in Holbrook has them all over the parking lot. A few more weeks and the deep pink flowering crab apples bloom, gorgeous! Wish they lasted longer. The street st the entrance to our Beach Community was planted with forsythia 70 years ago. You can look all the way down to the beach and see a riot of yellow!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cute-your little gardening girl. I bet you will find a bird to put in her sweet little hands.
ReplyDeleteThose tree lines streets are just gorgeous. That certainly does not look like a typical condo community.
Hubby is pushing me towards a condo but I don't think I am ready just yet.....but- your area is gorgeous-nothing like the condo set-ups around here. xo Diana
