I have no shame in telling you that I most definitely and deliberately copied Debbie at Debbiedoos’ project where she attached a wood embellishment to her drawer front under her kitchen sink. There. I said it and I’m fine with it.
I have seen this addition to kitchen cabinet fronts at a few other blogs and always loved the look, filing it away in the back of my mind, because I’ve had this wood embellishment for a few years now. Just waiting for the perfect project.
Well, what could be more perfect than this! This is what the front looked like before.
I pulled out the sample pot that I still have of my ASCP Paris Grey. I thought the grey might work well for my kitchen because the cabinets are a creamy white and the countertop is grey. Plus I have stainless steel appliances, so grey it was.
Here it is after two coats of the grey. I could just leave it like this. But, I didn’t.
I did add some antique white craft paint to some areas by dry brushing it on. The white is very subtle.
Then I added some clear wax and some dark wax to show off some of the detailing better.
This is a really quick project to update your kitchen! I decided I didn’t want to make anything permanent at the moment, so I attached it to the drawer front with some museum putty/wax.
Let’s go into my dungeon of a kitchen and try and see it through the darkness. Bring your night vision goggles if you’ve got ‘em. I just love it!
I was going to crop this next picture, but this is real life and I was cooking dinner and working on a little project at the same time.
Such a quick, easy and inexpensive way to dress up a cabinet front!
Thanks, Debbie! Seeing your post gave me the kick in the pants to just do it already. Plus, I think it’s fitting I copied you since you host the Copycat Linky Party!

ReplyDeleteLooks great! The color was the perfect choice.
ReplyDelete...and what an EXCELLENT copy catter you are Kathy! That looks awesome!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh Kathy!
ReplyDeleteThat is AWESOME!!!!!
I love it and love your kitchen.
WOW, really added that little something, didn't it?
WELL DONE!
Hi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteI love this! I loved it when I saw it at Debbie's too. They both look fantastic. I love the grey in yours and the way that it blends with the countertops. I love a simple project with such a big impact.
XO Cindy
It really is a pretty touch! I may have to copycat you now!
ReplyDeleteJeanine
Hi Kathy, I love it, and it does add just the right touch. We recently had our kitchen remodeled and I added a piece very much like the one you have. My cost around 80.00, but so worth it because it adds so much to the look!
ReplyDeleteHugs~~~ Daphne
Kathy,
ReplyDeleteIt looks great...love Paris Gray!! I have one that I thought about using on my cabinets...maybe soon I will get around to it.
Blessings,
Linda
Looks fantastic. Can I also ask where do you get the sample size of the AS paint? the large cans are just too big and too expensive for the small projevts I have in mind... thanks!
ReplyDeleteKathy,
ReplyDeleteI love the new look. I would have done the same thing, it adds such charm to the kitchen, love-love, love-it!
That's a great look to copy. It looks awesome in your kitchen as well.
ReplyDeleteThat looks really nice Kathy. My name is Kathy, and i'm a copycat too!!I just bought some blue stik at lowe's. It's almost like what you bought. It works really good too.I love your kitchen.
ReplyDeleteKathy
Kathy~ That looks great! It really dresses it up beautifully! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteAwesomeness and love it in grey.
ReplyDeleteThat turned out perfect Kathy!!
ReplyDeleteI definitely want to copy this. The only problem is mine has two fake fronts. Do you think two small embellishments would look ok? My knobs are black so I think I would paint them black.
ReplyDeleteLove it Kathy! Love that you are an admitted copy catter too!
ReplyDeleteKaren
Looks wonderful, Kathy! Debbie will be proud!
ReplyDeleteI love it..and what a great idea to use the museum putty in case you want a "new look"
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to use quake hold. One time I used a different museum wax in a jar and it was soooo sticky that I thought I would never get the residue off! Have you seen any other applique shapes that might go with a modern kitchen style that we are stuck with? Maybe an elongated diamond shape???
ReplyDeleteThat adds a very nice touch to your lovely kitchen!Great to get inspiring ideas from other blogs and then make use of them in your own home.
ReplyDeleteCarolyn
That looks fantastic Kathy! Well done and thanks so much in advance for sharing it at Inspiration Friday this week! :-)

Hi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteYour scrollie looks super cute there.

What a pretty addition, Kathy. I really like the gray you used and the scale of the piece looks nice. Where do you find the museum wax? I've wanted to get that before.
ReplyDeleteIt's perfect in gray! :) chris
ReplyDeleteLove it! Great idea!
ReplyDeleteLove that idea! Hey...I call that inspiration...not copying! Happy week!...hugs...Debbie
ReplyDeleteHello Kathy, welcome to the copycat meeting place called blog-land...
ReplyDeleteMy name is Angela and if I see something nice here I'll copy it too.I blame it all to Rachel Ashwell, she started it all. I love your kitchen.
xoxo
Angela.
That turned out so pretty! It is a great contrast to your cabinets yet picks up the colors of your counters. Don't you just love something small that makes a big impact?
ReplyDeleteThat is just what the front of that sink needed. I added one to the sink in my laundry room a couple of years ago. Makes a huge difference. Nice paint too!
ReplyDeleteKathy,
ReplyDeleteI think it adds so much and really looks so pretty! Isn't it amazing how something so easy makes such a big impact!
blessings,
karianne
I love it Kathy! It's the perfect embellishment for that area of the kitchen! I love the colours you used too! So lovely! Angie xo
ReplyDeleteThat looks really great--huge improvement!
ReplyDeleteI used 3 coats today of the free Ace coat to cover the back of my hutch--which was white! For some reason I am not having very good coverage with it. I really wanted to like it because they were nice enough to give me a free quart..I was planning to buy a couple gallons to paint the room. Not so sure now.
I'm thinking I should copy that great idea too! My kitchen cabinets need paint and are pretty plane but a little detail could be good. I like the change it made in your kitchen.
ReplyDeleteIt looks fabulous...your kitchen is gorgeous!
ReplyDelete~Des
I loved Debbies, and I love yours. Nice paint finish.
ReplyDeleteI love the addition to your cabinet, Kathy. It looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSuper idea, Kathy - copycat or not! lol! It looks beautiful there and truly adds alot of character to your kitchen. :) Where did you find the embellishment?
ReplyDeletexoxo laurie
I am so proud Kathy! WOW, something so simple, and inexpensive makes a HUGE difference. Love the color too. I thought about going the color route and perhaps I may change mine down the road. Thanks for copying, I love it:)
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy, found your blog through inspiration friday @ the picket fence. Dont you just love debbie? I really like what you did...big impact! Where do you buy those small samples of ASCP? Thanks for sharing...now i am copying you... ;)
ReplyDeleteLove it! The color you chose goes so well with your appliances and countertop!
ReplyDeleteI think I may file this away in the back of my mind also... So pretty! And you're right - very simple, but it certainly does dress up your kitchen :)
ReplyDeleteSuper cute~ we have an old screen right under our sink- I guess to air out the under sink garbage? I dunno.. old houses! I have thought about taking it out and using an embellishment in it's place many times- yours came out great!! Thanks for linking up!!
