Attaining New Heights

This wall in our dining area is quite high.  I’ve been thinking about adding to the area above the mirrors for awhile now, but wasn’t sure what.  The pictures are not too great since it was cloudy, rainy days here when I took them.

I had these bunny prints in the dining room in our old house and rather than banish them to the attic, I decided to see how they might look.  I held one up just to get an idea and I liked it!  So out came the hammer and nails {a half hour before my husband was due home from an overnight business trip}.

I like it!  This wall needed something in addition to the mirrors.

Would you add one more thing on top {centered over the bunny prints} or leave it as it is now?  I thought maybe a brown and white transferware platter to top this vignette off.

  2. The bunny prints looks great on top of the mirrors. I think it looks just fine now without anything above the bunny prints!

  3. Kathy, the wall looks great with the pictures above the mirror. It is pretty the way it is but the addition of a brown transferware plate I think would be worth the extra step. I like the way the entire area is decorated.-------- Shannon

  6. I have very tall ceilings throughout the main floor and I struggle with this, too. I have put something (ie antlers, small mirror etc) above most of my pictures. I think your bunny pics look great. I'd have to see it before commiting, but perhaps a piece of transferware would finish it off =)

  7. The bunnies are so cute. Maybe the platter would look good too. I say give it a try. Hugs, Marty

  8. That looks awesome Kathy. We have the same issue with high ceilings. A gallery wall is the ticket. Love those prints btw.

  9. Kathy, this is a great arrangement and a great way to add height to the space! Your vignette is lovely.

  10. Love it. I think I would try the extra step just to see. It is beautiful like it is though. ~:-) Jen

  11. Good Morning Kathy, Your rabbit pictures are really sweet and fit so well into the space. It's difficult to say whether you should add a transfer plate without seeing the space. I would wait and week and then decide. Best Wishes Daphne

  12. Hi Kathy, I would need to see the wall further away to see if you need more. The rabbit pictures are so cute. It's always fun to decorate. Sometimes we need to sit on ideas for awhile and see if it works or not. Your home is lovely.

  13. The rabbit pictures do give it added height. They look great too. I adore platters and china on the wall although I have none myself. I say try the platter. Command strips is what everyone uses these days. I have not used them yet. My walls are full. xo, olive

  18. I don't know....I really like it just the way it is now (and I liked it before too!), but I'd hate to not be open to other possibilities :). They look great! ~Zuni

  19. It is beautiful as it is, but I think the platter would emphasize the wonderfully high ceiling. Love the fabric on the dining chairs, you have a very beautiful home.

  20. I love the idea of adding the transferware to the top. I think it would finish it off beautifully.

  21. You nailed it Kathy! The prints look beautiful above the mirror. I would try adding the platter above and if you don't like you can always remove it. When I hung my plates, I use those disc adhesive plate hangers. They are wonderful...do you any? Enjoy your evening, Gail

  22. I like it like it is, but something round above it (such as the plate, you mentioned) would be good to soften it. The bunny prints are cute too!

  24. Perfect! I have several spots like that where I need height. Thanks so much for stopping by. You are always so sweet about taking the time to leave a comment. I'm certainly running behind on my visiting. That barn sale really knocked the wind out of our sails!

  25. Kathy I love those bunny prints, they look great above the mirrors! I say add the plate. We have the same problem with high ceiling.

  26. Hi, Kathy! By this point I bet you've already experimented with adding the plate! I think I'd try it. The adorable bunny prints were a great addition to add height.

  27. It is absolutely perfect. I do not see anything else being added but you could hang it and let it wear on you for a few days and them make your decision. I might just look great. Where did you buy those awesome mirrors?

  30. The bunny prints really add something to the already great looking vignette. As far as adding a vintage platter on the top, I don't necessarily subscribe to the less is more philosophy so I say go for it. It all looks wonderful, Kathy. I love those long mirrors with the detail.

  31. Kathy, I don't know how I missed this post before now! I love your Fall vignette and the bunny prints looks great above the mirrors! I think it's perfect now!

  32. Your bunny prints are great over the mirrors, and a platter would add a nice little crown to the top. Or, you can send me those lovely mirrors and bunny prints, and start over! :D

  33. Hey, Kathy! I love the bunny pictures over the mirrors. Your dining area is beautiful! I really like the idea of the plate over the mirrors and the pictures! Have a wonderful weekend. ~ Jamie

  34. Hi Kathy,

Well, you probably know what my opinion is. Hang transferware? YES. Besides my partiality to that I do think you could add something over the bunny prints, especially seeing that the wall goes up so high. I think it will be a crowning touch to the overall arrangement. I think you could even put a small (7-8") plate on either side of the mirrors, directly over a corbel of sorts...maybe with a bit of greenery on the corbels flowing over, which you could change out seasonally if desired.
So, for whatever it's worth, that is my opinion. It looks darling just as is too!

    Hugs,

    Nancy

I love your dining table, btw!

  35. It is very lovely, Kathy. I don't think I would add any more, but it's difficult to actually see the space. I think I would cut a circle of construction paper in a soft brown color and tape it up there -- live with that for a few days and see what you think.

  36. The rabbits are adorable! The added height perfect!!!

  37. I like Penny's idea of a brown transferware plate on top. I find it so hard to decorate my tall walls in the living room. Thanks for the idea of stacking a few pieces.
