I thought I’d combine my thrifty find and its makeover in one post. I found this bulletin board at Goodwill last week when I was thrifting with my friend, Sue.
For $2.99 it came home with me and got a makeover. I painted the frame with Burnt Umber craft paint.
Then I pulled out this utility fabric I bought at Joann’s {in the area where the burlap is}. It feels kind of like a cross between paper and fabric.
The design had caught my eye so I figured I’d try a yard. The pattern on this fabric doesn’t run straight, which was driving me wacky.
I cut the fabric to the measurement of the cork and used a spray adhesive on the back of the fabric to attach it to the cork. The back and/or cork didn’t pop out so this was my only option.
I’m hoping this might appeal to the men at the holiday market. It would probably work great in a kitchen. It can be hung vertically or horizontally.
By the way, Sue bought my little French table, so I’m on the lookout for something else to makeover and bring with me to the holiday market.

ReplyDeleteAnother great piece! I never thought to use spray adhesive. I think I tossed a bulletin board over the summer because I couldn't get the cork out. Argh!

There was a antique bed that had been repainted in a soft blue. Something between blue and gray color but I could not get the name of it but really would like to do my old bed like this.
Any ideas. lol

ReplyDeleteCool fabric! I hardly ever make it to Joann's since it's about an hour away. I'll have to think of an excuse to go up to Kennesaw to check out their fabric selection. It's always much better than Hobby Lobby (it's much bigger).
ReplyDeleteMost of the time when the print is so "off" you can pull the opposite corners of the piece of yardage to straighten the grain. If the print is printed off the grain, it will not help but it is worth a try! That wonky print would drive me crazy! You are very creative and have wonderful ideas!
