Check It Out

I’ve long admired the painting transformation that Patti from Pandora’s Box makes to furniture and other home related pieces.  When I saw a post she did where she had made up checked teapots for a reader of her blog, I knew that I was going to have to ask her to do something for me.

While I love black and white, I knew these pieces were going to be in my dining area, where I have brown and cream.  So that was what I asked Patti to do.

I think that Patti did a great job and I just love them!  I tried them over on my buffet area, but I like how they look on the table. It gives me a chance to admire them front and center!

On a side note, that little evergreen plant in the picture is one I bought at Walmart at Christmas time for $4.98.  Rather than changing out the fabric around it, I was thinking about repotting it.  Is it worth it or will it kick the bucket as soon as I do that?

You shouldn't kill it by repotting it, Kathy. Make sure you kind of "fluff out" the roots a bit so they have a chance to grab hold of the new soil. Put some drainage in the bottom of the pot, too. Water it really good and then let it almost dry out before watering again.

I love the checkered things that Patti did for you. They are wonderful, aren't they? xo Diana

WOW- how unique, she did a nifty job for sure!

Kathy that tree can live forever, they really don't die easily - they like acidic soil, need moisture but not standing water or too soaked and like to spread their legs (roots.)

So if you keep re-potting in larger and larger pots as the tree grows, the tree will grow well and get bigger and bigger.

Eventually you can even plant it outside!

When you do repot mix spent tea leaves or coffee grounds as an acidic fertilizer for the soil, it will love it.

Hope that helps.

What a darling set! Patti did a wonderful job. I've painted checks on a cylindrical surface before and it's not easy! And they've never turned out as cute as your pitcher and creamer turned out.

Hi Kathy, the painted cream and sugar silvers are beautiful and different. I dug one of those plants out of my sister's neighbors trash (my sis was appalled) and I repotted it and it has done just fine. It lives on the deck in the summer and in the dining room in winter. It kills me when folks throw away plants. xo, olive

I wouldn't repot the "tree" unless the roots are coming out of the bottom of the pot then do what Nana Diana said..The pot should only be an inch or so bigger than it's present pot..

Hi Kathy,
Love the checked treasures. They look awesome and she did a great job. I have always loved to paint with checks and stripes too. Sort of a Mackenzie Childs style of decorative art.
They look so nice on the tray.
Have a great evening.
Hugs, Celestina Marie

I would abosolutely try and replant that tree. It is so pretty and it should be fine if you spread the roots and give it room to breathe.
