New Look For An Old Picture

After a rainy, windy Saturday, Sunday dawned bright and sunny. Still a little breezy, but I know I am running out of time to spray paint outside. So I grabbed everything that was due for a coat of black spray paint, got my spray boxes and got going.

One of the items I decided to spray paint {kind of last minute} was the picture above. This was a Home Goods purchase some time ago and, while I still like the print, the frame color wasn't doing anything for me anymore. Here's another view.

So I went to my favorite website, Ballard Designs, to see their black framed prints. I found these to use as inspiration. I figured "what the heck", since I didn't like the current frame color anyway I really had nothing to lose.

I taped over the glass with blue tape and newspaper.

I sprayed the whole frame, giving it two coats.

This is how it turned out. I love it! I think it even makes the colors in the print pop more, too. Just goes to show ~ don't be afraid to give something a new look with a little spray paint!

What a difference paint makes to update the look.
I have a few projects just waiting for one last warm day to get done too :) (hope I haven't missed the opportunity)

I love spray paint transformations. Even the simplest DIY can create a whole new beautiful look. I love the frame dark. Great job! :)

Thanks, Debbie! You have a great one, too!

Thank you, Lori! I'm glad I decided to just do it.

Much more up-to-date now, Jane! And, I still get to enjoy the print itself.

I did notice that, Terry! They are not real bright colors to begin with, but I think they got lost in the light frame.

I've got a can of black spray paint in reserve at all times now, Glenda! {White, too!}

Hi Sarah! Thanks for visiting. I like it much better, too!

Thank you, Shannon! I'm just looking for things to spray paint now!

Thanks, Kammy! It was between the black and a bronze {metal look}; I just wasn't feeling the bronze though.

Thank you, Roeshel! I'm so glad I was able to update it and still be able to use it.

OH my gosh..yes, it looks so much better black. We have a large painting in a similar whitish frame. I've never really liked the frame much and now you've given me some ideas!

I love what a can of spray paint can do! Your picture looks wonderful. I too spent the day painting outside, as I live where the days are getting colder.

Oh, I love it, Kathy! It's such a simple change, but the print looks so much more sophisticated. Nice work!

Very nice. I love Ballard Designs and am so glad you reminded me to go there for inspiration.

Thanks, PK! I'm really glad I went ahead and did it.

Phyllis ~ Absolutely! I've become a big fan of spray paint!

Thanks, Janell! I've been making sure I've got some on hand {especially since this one was kind of spur of the moment}!

Thank you, Liz! That's what I thought! I kept going back and forth between the before and after pictures to make sure I wasn't imagining it ~ but it does.

Thanks, Michelle! I guess we can't go wrong with a change to black. Always classic!

@Red Door Home ~ That's me too. It's quite chilly in the morning and evenings now, so I had to take advantage of the sunny day.

Thanks, Christine! I'm loving it too!

Thank you, Tamera! I actually thought of painting that brick many years ago. I'm glad I left it!

Thankfully, it was fairly simple, Marian! I think the longest part was taping and covering the glass.

Thanks, Nancy! I always like to look at their stuff for inspiration because I do love just about everything they carry.

They look great now! I always wonder why they put light toned prints in light frames. Anyway, you've done a fantastic job and the color really pops.

Great transformation...I'm desparately trying to get my spraypainting done too as the weather won't cooperate much longer...I definitely like the black frame better for that print :O)

Thanks, Brenda! I like it so much better now!

Hi Maryann! It's working better with all my black and white that I've been doing lately.

Thank you, Cindy! I was feeling a little pressured to get it done Sunday, because it was so nice out here, but I keep feeling like there is going to be more!

You turned that print from ho hum to elite! Love it, especially where you display it alongside the other blacks.
