The Headboard Is {Finally} Done!

I never thought I was going to get this headboard done!  I’ll bet you were starting to think the same!  If you recall, I purchased this headboard at a thrift store and talked about it here.

I was so taken with the shape and detail, and we had been without a headboard for three to four years.  Monday I finally had the time to paint it and I used my Annie Sloan Old White chalk paint.  Here it is after one coat.

After two coats it was looking better, but I have to tell you that I was wishing for a paint sprayer while getting in all the nooks and crannies on this piece!

Once it was dry I applied the clear wax and let it sit overnight.   Tuesday I applied the dark wax and tried to keep most of the focus of it in the detailing.  Thankfully, any overuse comes away easily with some clear wax applied on top.

It’s hard to see the dark wax used here, although you can probably notice a difference between the area I still have to paint that I did a little outline of the Old White on its own.  This area will be hidden by the box spring and mattress, so I’m just going to give it a quick coat.  Some close ups might help.

I am so glad this headboard is done and off my list of projects!  I can’t show it all prettied up until we are actually in the new place, but I’ll be sure to follow up with some pictures.

It looks fantastic Kathy. Spraying may have been easier, but nothing beats the character added by doing it by hand. You did a great job.

That is just INCREDIBLE, Kathy! I love the total effect & would never have dreamed it could look so good.

I see you're moving to Springboro, OH...you'll be close to Sue from Sullivan & Murphy, I think. One of these days, I'll be able to join in the Ohio Bloggers gatherings & perhaps we'll meet as well.

Best of luck to you in your move.

WOW!! Fabulous Kathy! I really love it! However, I am not a fan of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint!~ I must be the only one in the WHOLE blog world who doesn't like it! I feel that
I can get the same look with my paint and glaze and can leave out the clear wax step. I am doing buffet in my dining room and it is wearing me out!lol

I am sure I am in the minority on this, but your headboard is FABULOUS!!

What a wonderful find!!! That headboard is gorgeous and you've done a very good job making it your own. I just came across your blog today and you have really inspired me to get out my paintbrush and rags!!!! :-)

I have an antique chest of drawers I've been thinking about pulling out of storage to use in 13-year old daughter's room -- I hope to transform that room over the winter. My antique chest of drawers is the perfect piece for a MacKenzie-Childs paint job.

Choosing the right look and mix of patterns is the hardest part. So, when I pull it out of storage, I will post a picture in hopes of getting some good feedback on how to tackle it.

Iris
