Odds and Ends

I wound up making an unexpected change to our  main bathroom last week.  I went to TJ Maxx to look for a new wallet {found two} and decided to browse the clearance aisles in the home section.  I found this Laura Ashley shower curtain for $10.00.

I had just been thinking that a shower curtain with more white in it might help brighten up this windowless bathroom, too.  I had left our striped one up because it at least had a little bit of white in it.  This is an older picture of what it looked like before {also before I put the frame around the mirror}.

Here it is with the new shower curtain. I think it is perfect for the warmer months!

That same day I also hit Hobby Lobby for the pillow form I needed and I finished off my second Alice themed pillow.

This one features the tea party setting and two lacey ruffles.  This is now in my Etsy.

The last thing I have to share today is this little fern I picked up at Home Depot.  I put it in the birdcage in our sunroom.

Let’s just see if I can keep it alive long enough to get a pot for it. Hopefully, at one of the garage sales.

Master Bedroom For Summer

2013 06 12_1584

I like to lighten things up for the Summer months and the master bedroom is no exception.  The only thing I really changed out was the quilt that I had on the bed to this white gathered duvet cover.

I also picked up this light quilted toile throw from Joann’s when they were having them on sale 50% off a few weeks ago.  The colors go with the other toile I used in our room, as well as the Duck Egg and the Pottery Barn drapes.

I also finally finished off the other side table’s dropcloth table skirt {which I copied from Vanessa from At The Picket Fence}.

I’m enjoying this lighter look!

A Petite Stool “Moo”kover

SONY DSC

I found this little stool a few weeks ago at a garage sale.  It was cute and sturdy, but not quite my style.

2013 06 11_1582

I painted it with Old White chalk paint and decided to try using Acetone to transfer the image. This is another transfer method where you have to use a toner copy.  I print mine out and take them with me when I go to the library, and copy several at once so I have some on hand.  To pay homage to the cow that was originally on there, I went with this image that I found on Pinterest.

cow.olddesignshop.pinterest

It came out a bit lighter than I would have liked {and not as sharp as I would have liked} but I decided to leave it, especially after I noticed that for some reason the top of the stool had started to crackle.  I didn’t add any kind of crackle medium, it just appeared on its own.

SONY DSC

I sanded it just a bit in spots to distress it and then applied some clear and dark waxes.

SONY DSC

I think the lightness of the image gives it the appearance of being older and having faded over time.

SONY DSC

It will be “moo”ving into the booth!

Corralling Escaping Fabric

The Where Bloggers Create Linky Party over at My Desert Cottage is coming up in about a month’s time.  That’s my cue to start straightening things up in the craft/sewing room so I can take some pictures to share my space.  If you’ve never visited this blog party let me just tell you it is a wonderful way to get some inspiration and creative ideas for your own creative space ~ no matter how big or small.

WhereBloggersCreate2013

I started in on a few updates shortly after last year’s party.  This was my fabric as of last year’s party.

SONY DSC

One of the things I did to get this pile neater was find a bin I already had and call it into use for my fabric.  Only thing was I have so much fabric I needed two bins!  Since I had the one for several years, I knew chances of Michael’s having the exact same one were slim to none.  They didn’t, but they had one that was close enough.

SONY DSC

Up until today, this was how it was looking.  Pretty sad, especially since I wanted to use up what I’ve got before bringing more into the house, but as a fabric addict that can be hard to do.  Plus, I’m a sucker for remnant bins and clearance sections! Unfortunately, I was losing track of what I had because I just put fabric on top of fabric.

2013 06 14_1673

How much is too much fabric!  A clear out was in order. So I sat down on the floor in the sunroom and took all the fabrics out of the bins.

2013 06 14_1674

I got to work going through it all.  There is a pile to donate {or go to my daughter}.

2013 06 14_1675

And a pile of “why was I keeping this?” to go in the garbage.

2013 06 14_1676

I put the fabric back in the bins in a way so that I can see what I have at a glance now.

2013 06 14_1677

I think it is looking much better!

SONY DSC

Next it is onto the bookcases!  I’m amazed sometimes that I can even find anything.

All Alice

SONY DSC

I had a quilted cream colored fabric that I was going to get rid of but started wondering how it would take an iron-on image.  Well, it came out great and I decided to keep it and use it to make a few pillows {and maybe a Christmas stocking}.  I now have one pillow in my Etsy and one in the process!  I used the White Rabbit image on this one.

SONY DSC

Added a ruffle, some crinkled seam binding, and a bit of bling {an earring I found at an estate sale}.  It measures 8 x 11 {from ruffle to ruffle}.

SONY DSC

I’ve added this to my Etsy shop.  As soon as I buy the pillow form for the other one, I’ll have that finished up and in my Etsy shop, too.  Meanwhile, last week I did a little girl’s apron with the White Rabbit, too.

SONY DSC

It seems like it is all Alice all the time here at the moment!

Refresh Of A . . . Um . . . Thingamabob

2013 06 12_1572

As you can tell, I’m not really sure what to call this “thing” I picked up for $3.00 at our community garage sale about a month ago.

SONY DSC

It’s got two baskets {that lift up}and four hooks on the bottom.  I think it would be great to use in a kitchen displaying some dishes and holding either towels or aprons, in a bathroom with rolled up towels in the baskets, or even outside with the baskets planted with flowers and the hooks holding some small garden tools.

SONY DSC

I wanted to give it a refresh because I wasn’t feeling that green color.  I sprayed it with Rustoleum’s Heirloom White 2x coverage spray paint.

2013 06 12_1580

I found a spot where I could hang it up and style it to give a few ideas for its use.

I will ask my daughter if she is interested in it, otherwise it is going to the booth.
