Jane Austen Silhouette Pillow

I found a round/oval crochet doily at a yard sale recently that had a linen insert in the middle.  It reminded me of a cameo so I knew I wanted to do something with a silhouette image.  I decided to go with the Jane Austen silhouette since it is easily available online and did an iron on transfer onto the linen insert.

I am using dropcloth for the pillow cover and sewed the doily onto the center of the pillow, tacking down some of the outer crochet pieces that would tend to flop over.

I played around with the stitch pattern on my sewing machine and used a curvy wave pattern to sew the pillow together.

I’m really pleased with the way it turned out.  This is going on the side to come with me to the Dickens Festival gift shop in December.

I’m going to tell you something and I hope you won’t laugh.  I will be 50 next month and I never read any of the Jane Austen books until two weeks ago!  I managed to catch “Emma” on Masterpiece Classic recently and loved it.

I have also seen Pride and Prejudice {the Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen version}, which I also loved.  I downloaded “Emma” to my kindle for free and read it right after I saw it on Masterpiece Classic.  Mansfield Park is waiting on the kindle to be read next!

Kathy, That pillow turned out great. That was a good idea for that doily-it does look like a cameo!
I am so glad you discovered those books. I plan to reread them this winter because it has been years since I read them (high school). Have you watched Downton Abbey? If you love those books you will LOVE Downton Abbey. xo Diana

I've never read the books either and I'm older than you! Love your pillow and I bet it won't last long at the Dickens Festival gift shop.

So vintage and aged looking with doily, it also gives it some coquetry..The silhouette image gives it style and elegancy..Like it much:)Marinela

Love the pillow, Kathy! I have to confess, as much as I love to read, I have never read any of her books. I should, though, shouldn't I? :)

I love the pillow and that you saw the doily and knew it would be great for a cameo pillow. Now that's a pillow I would scoop up in a heartbeat!

Ahh! I LOVE Jane Austen! I own/have read every book. I've seen/own almost every version of every movie ever made. My Mom and sisters have been all about those books since I can remember! I even made Jane Austen pillows with that same silhouette. Your pillow is just beautiful! ~ Jamie
